The Irkutsk Art Museum invited students of the Institute of Architecture and Construction at ISTU to immerse themselves in the museum world and think about how to make it as comfortable as possible for visitors. As a platform for creative experiments, the territory of a park located near the main building of the museum from Sverdlov Street was proposed. Now this is an empty space, which in the future should become a resting place for citizens. Historically, there was a Sukachevsky square in Irkutsk, which attracted Irkutsk residents with bizarre alleys, grottoes, openwork benches, arbors. True, it was located on the embankment of the Angara. Now the museum plans to make Sukachevsky square in the city center. It is assumed that the square will be open for free access by citizens, will become a new platform for hosting open-air exhibits and for conducting creative performances.

After discussion with the leading teachers of the Institute of Architecture and Construction, NI ISTU, it was decided to hold a competition of projects on the topic: “The concept of the artistic image of the recreational space of the Irkutsk Art Museum (Sukachevsky Square)”. Participants of the competition are senior students of the specialties "Architecture", "Design of the architectural environment."

The first step towards the creation of future projects was the acquaintance of students with the territory of the future museum square. We can assume that while this is a blank sheet, which gives great scope for creative imagination. Dates of the competition: September - December 2015. Following the results of the event, which received the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Irkutsk Region, in February 2016 it is planned to hold a festival of ideas, an exhibition-presentation and a final conference with discussion of projects by professional creative unions and the general public. The best works will be awarded prizes and will become the basis for the creation of a new museum space.
