The next meeting of the subscription “Music of Three Centuries” is dedicated to the composers of England and Russia. Variations on the theme of Frank Bridge Britten and Symphoniette Shostakovich will sound.
The chamber ensemble "Soloists of St. Petersburg" (artistic director - People’s Artist of Russia Mikhail Gantvarg) was created in 1987 as a creative community of talented musicians - young in age, but, nevertheless, who had by that time considerable experience and success as in areas of solo and ensemble concert performance, as well as in the field of activity in the leading St. Petersburg symphony and chamber orchestras. The ensemble’s repertoire is very extensive and, with its diversity, clearly reveals the creative and taste preferences of the artistic director and his musicians. Among the most frequently performed works are the “golden” pages of the music of the Baroque and Renaissance (Vivaldi, Corelli, Handel, Bach, Pergolesi), works by the classics of the “Vienna School” (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven), masterpieces of romantic musical literature (Rossini, Grieg, Chaikovsky). A significant place in the ensemble’s repertoire is occupied by works by prominent Russian and foreign composers of the 20th century (Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Schnittke, Bartok, Barber, Britten). The musicians constantly acquaint the listeners with the novelties of modern music and, in particular, with the compositions of the composers of their city (among the premieres presented by the ensemble are works by famous Petersburg authors A. Petrov, B. Arapov, G. Korchmar, P. Gekker).
