Classics of Soviet Fantasy, or Tales from Grandma’s Chest Automatic translate
Fairy tales of the 1930-80s were successful not only among Soviet boys and girls (parents, grandparents of modern children), but also among directors and producers of Hollywood, who considered "Soviet fantasy" a storehouse of vivid cinematic receptions, discoveries and achievements and did not hesitate to repeat and quote them in their films.
In July, the classics of Soviet fantasy can be seen in the galleries of the Association “Exhibition Halls of Moscow”, where children’s movie areas will be opened as part of the Summer Vzale program.
The project starts in mid-July at once at four sites of the Association (galleries: Izmailovo, Bogorodskoye, Pechatniki, Solntsevo art center and Vykhino gallery-workshop) and will last until the end of August. The program of film screenings includes favorite fairy-tale films of famous Soviet directors: A. Ptushko, A. Row, A. Mitta and others. The project plans two sessions each Wednesday (at 11.30 and at 16.30), as well as master classes and competitions Children’s drawings based on watched tales. The results of the competitions will be held at the autumn exhibitions of children’s creativity.
Project activities are carried out free of charge with the support of the Mosfilm film concern. The project’s information partner is the Culture of Moscow portal.
“Modern children are in love with Star Wars.” But the creator of this film epic, George Lucas, was in love with the work of Soviet film storytellers Alexander Row and Alexander Ptushko. Alas, the films of these directors are rarely seen today. But we decided to rectify the situation and show cult films-tales in our rooms. I am sure that this summer Soviet fantasy will find fans in the ranks of a new generation of viewers. And I also hope that after watching these tales, our children will better understand us, their parents, whose childhood was different, but also exciting!.. ” says Milena Musina, film critic, film historian, screenwriter, author of the project“ Classics of Soviet Fantasy ”, or Tales from the Grandmother’s Chest.
