Clarisa Paulovna Mikhnya Was born in 1950 in Chisinau. She has been drawing since childhood, in her youth she attended an art studio under the direction of Yuri Khorovsky. Since 1974 he has been living in Tver. In 1980 she graduated from the Tver Art School named after V.I. V.G. Venetsianov. In 1997-1999 she studied icon painting with the Tver artist Andrei Zaprudnov. He is engaged in painting, graphics, icon painting. She taught fine arts in high school and art studio. She participated in exhibitions together with her husband Alexander Frolov in 1991 in Osnabrück (Germany) and in 1994 in Tver.
The exhibition at the Borey Gallery will feature graphic works created by the artist mainly in the 1990s.
The faces and objects depicted by Clarice are filled with sadness, which, in turn, is filled with life. The images she uses are often simple, uncomplicated, recognizable: a veil, a scarf, a mirror, an orange blossom turning into a crown of thorns, like leitmotifs in women’s portraits, inform the viewer about the transience of youth and life, about the sadness of unfulfilled dreams of endless happiness and endless love. People sometimes merge with the surrounding landscape - only a look with a full range of shades of sadness remains unchanged, from light, contemplative ("Woman’s Portrait", 1992, "Woman in a Colorful Dress", 1996) to desperate entreaty ("Look", 2019).
Still lifes are also permeated with sadness: the colors in them barely try to blaze over the decorative brightly, but are immediately muffled by the cold monotony of the background: as if life itself makes its own harsh adjustments to joyful human dreams.
The black and white compositions of Clarice (“Women”, 2009, “Composition with a Portrait”, 1996) stand apart, in which she is revealed from a different perspective, as a master in the field of plasticity and composition. These works vividly reflect the artist’s views on interpersonal relationships between people and the relationship between people and culture.
