Kazan Palimpsest: the art of modern engraving in Tatarstan will be presented in Italy Automatic translate
From May 24 to June 2, 2017 Kazan artists participate in the international creative workshop “Vercelli-Kazan - Interpenetration and Mutual Influence in the Contemporary Art of Printed Graphics”. The art of contemporary engraving in Tatarstan will be presented for the first time in the ancient San Vittore Cathedral of Vercelli, the center of the province of the same name in northern Italy. The exhibition is organized by the City Hall, the Office of Cultural Heritage and the Archbishopric of Vercelli. The workshop is run by Italian graphic artist Roberto Giannetti.
The exhibition is attended by leading Kazan graphic artists who created the Grafcom creative group in 2011: Irina Antonova, Vera Karaseva, Sergey Repnin and Alexander Artamonov, the permanent leader of the association.
They were joined by an artist from Naberezhnye Chelny Marat Mingaleev. The name of the group “Graphic Committee” speaks of the active position of artists who are not only engaged in their own creativity, “pure art”, but are also concerned about the general state of the art process, the solution of pressing problems of the professional community. Grafcom conducts extensive activities to develop and promote engraving and graphic art, finding understanding and support at the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (director R. M. Nurgaleeva).
On the basis of the museum and together with its staff, Grafcom regularly holds the Kazan International Biennale of Printed Graphics “The Horseman”, exhibitions in the Graphics Room, organizes the work of the Center for Printed Graphics, which operates under the patronage of the Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts. Grafcom became the core of the graphic section of the Creative Union of Russian Artists in the Republic of Tatarstan, bringing together artists from different cities of the republic.
