Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art presents a joint exhibition of St. Petersburg artists Katerina Borodavchenko and Maria Garkavenko - a picturesque ode to gardens, earthly and heavenly.
- Description of the abundant beauty of the Crimean gardens
- Canvases resembling exotic butterflies
- The merger of two independent projects telling about the relationship between man and nature
Several years ago, the authors of the project "Every Garden Speaks of Love" left St. Petersburg. Now Maria Garkavenko, who used to create melancholic images against the background of snow and blackness of a winter night, plunged headlong into the abundant beauty of the Crimean gardens. Internal experiences were replaced by external observations: the artist enjoys studying and describing the southern flora, reflects seasonal changes in nature. The descriptions are biologically accurate, everything is recognizable here. The decorative approach to painting remained the same, all the same elastic dark lines frame saturated colors, but now a bright light appeared in the works, replacing the shadows.
Katerina Borodavchenko works in a St. Petersburg suburb, where there are many weeping willows. The artist is inspired by the process of self-organization of natural systems. Borodavchenko began to study this phenomenon, depicting huge snowflakes, and then became carried away by trees and gardens. The author investigates bilateral symmetry inherent not only in tree leaves, but also in many animals, including humans: the two halves of the whole are outwardly mirror-symmetrical. Katerina transfers this principle to plants - her canvases resemble the wings of exotic butterflies. It seems that the trees are endowed with consciousness: they are pensively observing their own reflections.
The exhibition at the Erarta Museum is a fusion of two independent projects, which are united by one theme. The artists, inspired by the "safe" beauty of the gardens, have created an ode to the visual pleasure that nature can give us. Thanks to human labor, chaos recedes, transforming into the order of the garden - the natural world merges with the world of people. It is this deep kinship between man and nature that is reflected in the metaphor invented by Maria Garkavenko - “every garden speaks of love”.
