On March 28, the exhibition “Explore. Create. Create”, dedicated to the famous Stroganov school of ceramics. The works of ceramic artists of different generations will tell about a whole era in Russian art, about the evolution of creativity and the influence of Stroganov on the mass production of ceramic products.
The Stroganov school is famous for its creative experiments. At the beginning of the 20th century, it became one of the centers of development of the then fashionable Russian style, and later it was here that bold constructivist projects were created. Revolutionary spirit and courage, combined with knowledge of folk tradition, are the distinctive features of the Stroganov ceramic school, which has always strived to preserve national identity and develop creative individuality.
“The exhibition will feature a motley mosaic of forms: layers, reliefs, sculptures, utilitarian objects. Works by recognized masters will be located next to student works. When the line blurs - where is the teacher, where is the student - it becomes clear that Stroganov ceramics are relevant and in tune with the present time. One thing remains unchanged - a high level of professionalism and creative individuality. And next to the permanent exhibition “Open Storage. Stoves and tiles" will allow us to draw parallels between the Russian art of tiled ceramics of the 17th - early 20th centuries. and the works of Stroganovites,” said Marina Lyulchuk, director of the Moscow State United Museum-Reserve “Kolomenskoye - Izmailovo”.
The exposition will bring together about 300 exhibits from the collections of the scientific and methodological fund of the Department of Artistic Ceramics of the Russian State University of Ceramics. S.G. Stroganov, the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve, the State Museum and Exhibition Center "ROSIZO", the State Palace and Park Museum-Reserve "Ostankino and Kuskovo", the State Biological Museum named after K.A. Timiryazev and private collections.
The presented objects will help to trace the transformation of shape formation in the field of ceramics. From 15th century shards that are collected in a vessel, to a porcelain service and an interior vase; from ceramic layer to spatial composition and sculpture.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see the works of Alexei Sotnikov, Pavel Kozhin, Alexander Belashov, Maria Shakhovskaya, Valery Maloletkov, Anna Udaltsova, Francisco Infante-Aran, David Tsipirovich and others. And also find out how the Paleontological Museum and Metrostroy are connected, what their relationship is to ceramics; what is the connection between Gzhel and dinosaurs.
You can get answers to questions about materials and technological processes in the “Ceramicist’s Workshop,” a section of the exhibition dedicated to the secrets of making ceramic products. Tactile models and samples will help you understand the peculiarities of techniques for making ceramic objects.
Once every three months, part of the exhibition will change. From the opening of the exhibition until the end of June, the Small Exhibition Hall will feature works by contemporary ceramic artists: Elizaveta Semenova, Daria Surovtseva, Anastasia Nesterenko and Olga Kolokoltsova.
Exhibition “Explore. Create. Create" is a joint project of the Moscow State United Museum-Reserve "Kolomenskoye - Izmailovo" and the Russian State University of Arts and Industry named after. S.G. Stroganov. The exhibition opens ahead of the university’s 200th anniversary and will be one of the first events in a series of celebrations in 2025.
