On May 28, the ART & BRUT contemporary art gallery will open a solo exhibition of Ivan Glazkov.
The modern world is a product of a totalitarian human “ratio” that fits human existence into a rigid framework of goals and plans. All-encompassing land cultivation, the construction of cities, the destruction of wildlife and its replacement with an artificially constructed technogenic environment, the emergence of new information structures that turn a person into an easily predictable set of properties and consumer preferences. The entire movement of human history is a path of systematic rationalization that subordinates everything that seems possible to itself. The exhibition by Ivan Glazkov "expositionname" is an attempt by the artist to escape from modernity into the space of ancient myth, which erodes common human ideas about the world.
The exposition is built as a theatrical performance, designed to recreate the surroundings of the mythical forest. The non-linear structure of the exhibition, coupled with a meditative soundtrack, plunges the viewer into the timelessness of myth. Abstract green canvases remind of wild forest thickets untouched by human hand, and black and white works - of the mythical world of shadows, which reflects the silhouettes of gods and monsters. The theatrical altar in the center and the plastic objects placed on the pedestals depicting wooden stumps are a sign of memory of Pan and Dionysus, whose rebellious spirit at all times remained uncontrollable and immense for man. The first is the god of the wild world, personifying the originality and irrationality of nature, indifferent to the passions of man. The second is the god of festivities and drunkenness, who gave birth to a special beginning in art, rejecting the harmony of plastic forms and dissolving human individuality in the abyss of the collective irrational.
But how possible is an escape from the reality of human goal-setting, carried out with the help of art? Everyone will find their own answer to this question.
The exhibition will run until June 26.
