The history of the Moscow region from the Stone Age to the era of Peter I.
The museum "textbook" clearly illustrates the history of Moscow and the Moscow region, imprinted in one and a half thousand genuine objects from the museum’s collection. The chronological countdown begins with the settlement of the region 27 thousand years ago and ends with the transfer of the capital at the beginning of the 18th century.
Visitors will find out when the first settlers appeared on the territory of modern Moscow, they will see the oldest tools and hunting weapons, fishing tackle, products from flint, wood and bone.
The section devoted to medieval Moscow will tell you about how Muscovites lived, what they dressed and what they brought, what goods were brought to Moscow from Europe, Byzantium and the Middle East, what crafts were held in high esteem, and why the most popular game of “grain” was considered prohibited. The timeline passed by visitors to the exhibition will help to track the most important events in the life of a medieval city.
Among the exhibits are the famous gait bag of a gambling Moscow dice player, a treasure trove of medieval coins, a jug with the inscription "Goodness of the person Grigory Ofonasiev", the governor’s wife’s headdress, woven with gold thread, the tombstone of a German mercenary, the Oprichnik Kaspar von Elferfeldt, as well as battle axes, XIV century chain mail, helmets and iron sword, found under the Manege building in 2004. Guests of the exhibition will look into the ancient well, ring the bell, cast on the orders of Patriarch Nikon himself, and see the white stone kernels flying at the enemies, carved to protect the walls.
A special place in the exhibition is devoted to the history of the Kremlin. The models presented at the exhibition will demonstrate how the main city fortress changed from the 12th to the 15th centuries. Visitors will also see a model of the Moscow Kremlin at the end of the 16th - beginning of the 17th centuries, made in 1947 by M.V. Gorodtsov to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Moscow.
