On August 13, 2018 at 18.00 in the exhibition hall of the Moscow Union of Artists (Starosadsky Lane, Building 5) the international art exhibition "Intergraphics: Kazan-Vercelli" opens, in which artists from Russia, Italy and Poland participate, presenting works created using various techniques printed graphics (etching, aquatint, color woodcut, etc.). The curator of the project is Alexander Artamonov (Kazan), an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, head of the NTO Grafkom. The exhibition presents a personal exhibition of engravings by Italian artist Roberto Giannetti.
The exhibitors, and these are 13 graphic artists from different cities of Italy (Vercelli, Genoa, Milan, Ascona), one from Poland (Lodz), five from Russia (Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Moscow), first came together in May 2017 in Vercelli, the capital of the province of the same name in the north of Italy, to work together in the international creative workshop “Vercelli Kazan - Interpenetration and Interdependence in the Contemporary Art of Printed Graphics”, organized by the leading contemporary master of color woodcuts in Italy, Roberto Giannetti with the support of the city hall and the archbishopric of the province. The artists had the task not only to master the technique of color woodcuts and adopt the unique experience of the Italian master, but to get to know the city and the province of Vercelli, their medieval and modern history, to embody their impressions in a new technique for themselves. The engravings of Russian artists brought to Italy to the exhibition and created there during the work of the international creative workshop, together with printing forms, were presented to them by Vercelli, and have been exhibited in different cities of Italy more than once.
For the exhibition in Russia (which has already managed to visit Kazan), foreign artists - Roberto Gianinetti, Magda Kasperska, Pierangel Orechkia, Silvio Pozatti, Paolo Segizzi - prepared the series “Vercelli-Kazan - Experiments in Contemporary Engraving” using printed forms created by Russian artists in Italy, investing new meanings in them, giving them their own interpretation, putting them into completely new works.
Roberto Gianinetti will present his personal exhibition to the Moscow audience, in which engravings created in 2003-2018 are presented. Roberto Gianinetti graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan with a degree in engraving. He is well known not only in Italy, but also in other countries of the world (Germany, Spain, Denmark, China, Lithuania, Poland, Serbia, USA, South Korea, etc.), where he held exhibitions, master classes and seminars. In 2013 and 2017, Roberto Gianinetti became the winner of the 2nd and 4th Kazan International Biennale of Printed Graphics. Roberto Gianinetti works mainly in the technique of color woodcuts (woodcuts), continuing and developing the traditions of Italian chiaroscuro, trying to find new meanings, values, imaginative systems, visual equivalents for the realities of the surrounding reality, for his thoughts on the world order.
Russian artists - leading masters of engraving in Tatarstan (Alexander Artamonov, Irina Antonova, Vera Karaseva, Marat Mingaleev), as well as Sergey Repnin
(currently lives in Moscow, but remains an active participant in Kazan art life) they exhibit new works, embodying last year’s Italian impressions in the silence and concentration of their workshops, demonstrating a wide technical palette of metal engraving (etching, aquatint, soft varnish, reserve) and expressive means (from classical tradition to avant-garde experiments).
The exhibition completes the work of the international creative workshop “Kazan stroke”, which was held from August 4 to 11 at the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Graphic Laboratory of the Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts in Kazan. The works created by foreign artists on the impressions of a trip to Tatarstan will become material for new exhibitions, contributing to international cultural cooperation and mutual understanding of our peoples.
The exposition is open for visitors from August 13 to 18, 2018 daily, during the opening hours of the exhibition hall of the Moscow Union of Artists (12.00-18.00), admission is free.
