On August 9, 2018 at 16 o’clock in the Khazine National Art Gallery of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan Kremlin, 3rd entrance) the international art exhibition “Intergraphics: Kazan-Vercelli” will open, in which artists from Russia, Italy participate and Poland, presenting works created in a variety of printing techniques (etching, aquatint, color woodcut, etc.).
The exhibitors - and this is 13 graphic artists from different cities of Italy (Vercelli, Genoa, Milan, Ascona), 1 from Poland (Lodz), 5 from Russia (Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Moscow) - first came together in May-June 2017 years in the city of Vercelli, the capital of the province of the same name in the north of Italy, to work together in the international creative workshop “Vercelli Kazan - Interpenetration and Mutual Influence in the Contemporary Art of Printed Graphics”, organized by Roberto Janetti, the leading contemporary master of color woodcopy, with the support of City Hall and the Archbishopric of the province. The artists had the task not only to master the technique of color woodcuts and adopt the unique experience of the Italian master, but to get to know the city and the province of Vercelli, their medieval and modern history, to embody their impressions in a new technique for themselves. The engravings of Russian artists brought to Italy to the exhibition and created there during the work of the international creative workshop, together with printing forms, were presented to them by Vercelli, and have been exhibited in different cities of Italy more than once.
For the exhibition in Kazan (which will later be opened in Moscow), foreign artists - Roberto Giannetti, Pierangel Orechkia, Silvio Pozzatti, Paolo Segizzi, Magda Kasperska and others - prepared the series “Vercelli-Kazan - Experiments in Contemporary Engraving” using printed forms created by Russian masters in Italy, investing new meanings in them, giving them their own interpretation, putting them into completely new works.
Russian artists - leading masters of engraving in Tatarstan (Alexander Artamonov, Irina Antonova, Vera Karaseva, Marat Mingaleev), as well as Sergey Repnin (now lives in Moscow but remains an active participant in Kazan art life) exhibit new works, embodying last year’s Italian impressions in silence and the concentration of their workshops.
The exhibition opens as part of the Kazan Creative Workshop, an international creative workshop, which will be held from August 4 to 11 at the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Center for Printing Graphics of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Graphic Laboratory of the Volga Branch of the Russian Academy of Arts. 10 foreign exhibitors from Italy and Poland will come to Kazan. They will take part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition, will get acquainted with the city and other attractions of our republic, meet with graphic artists of Tatarstan, and learn from their work experience. The works created by foreign artists on the impressions of a trip to Tatarstan will become material for new exhibitions, contributing to cultural cooperation and mutual understanding of our peoples.
