On the eve of Holy Week on April 8 at 16.00 the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by n. but. Russian Sergei Stadler will perform one of the most grandiose spiritual works of I. S. Bach, "Passion for John." This monumental work will open a cycle of concerts by the orchestra in the main Catholic church of St. Petersburg - the Basilica of St. Catherine of Alexandria, dedicated to the work of the great German composer.
“Passion for John” by Johann Sebastian Bach - a recognized masterpiece of the High Baroque. Nevertheless, since the time of Mendelssohn, who rediscovered the world of Bach, this work in the minds of the public takes in popularity "second place" after "Passion for Matthew." However, such a contrast between the two works is incorrect, because they are based on a different text. And music, equally brilliant in both cases, reveals the history of the Savior’s suffering from different angles. The more difficult is the task that the performers face, given that in a single program such a large-scale work can be heard extremely rarely.
It is noteworthy that maestro Stadler, for the performance of the Bach masterpiece, relies almost entirely on the creative power of the Petersburg Concert, choosing Anatoly Lomunov, Maxim Bulatov, s. but. Russia Galina Sidorenko. Among the invited musicians is the young singer Svetlana Arzumanova, who has repeatedly performed with the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Leonti Salyensky and the Youth Chamber Choir of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society under the direction of international competition laureate Yulia Khutoretskaya.
The concert will take place on April 8 at 16. 00 in the Basilica of St. Catherine of Alexandria
