On May 15 at 19:00 in the Shabolovka Gallery, with the support of AzarnovaGallery & Projects, the Castanyedy group exhibition opens. The exhibition will bring together artists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Omsk and other cities.
The name of the exhibition is a play on words and meanings. Castanedas are followers and admirers of the cult American mystic and writer Carlos Castaneda. Castanets are a musical instrument that magically comes alive in the hands of a dancer.
Like the heroes of Castaneda, whose intellectual Moscow was once read by the esoteric series, contemporary artists participating in the project create their own private, hermetic worlds, build a private, parallel reality.
The exhibition will feature paintings by Vladimir Dubosarsky, Kerim Ragimov, Gerasim Kuznetsov, objects made of wood by Vladimir Kozin, ceramics by Anna Russova, drawings by Pyotr Perevezentsev, works on fabrics by Georgy Litichevsky, sculptures by Andrei Prigov and Damir Muratov, videos by Marina Chernikova, works by other artists.
Gerasim Kuznetsov: “The participants in this project have good reasons to believe that something more is hidden behind the usual reality, not verbally verifiable, but that can be portrayed and, accordingly, seen.
Following the example of their distant predecessors, who preferred the Komsomol-Party career to Travel to Ixtlan, today they are choosing a parallel reality. Of course, avoiding reality can never be absolute. Therefore, in the works presented in the Castaneda project, the Mexican porlasalud usually ends with the Russian "memorial". Or vice versa. In this sense, one probably should not consider it as a purely escapist. ”
ORGANIZERS:
Gallery “On Shabolovka” (formerly “Zamoskovorechye”) of the Association “Exhibition Halls of Moscow”. It was created in the Danilovsky district of Moscow more than 20 years ago as an exhibition hall on the basis of the Moskvorechye creative association in the center of the Khavsko-Shabolovsky housing estate. Initially, this area was conceived as a hymn to the new post-revolutionary Moscow. Here and today, many monuments of the avant-garde have been preserved. Since 1991, the gallery has organized and held more than 600 art exhibitions in Moscow, in other cities of Russia and abroad. In 2014, the gallery space was completely updated. Projects dedicated to the avant-garde, as well as historical and local lore projects related to the comprehension of the cultural heritage of the Danilovsky district and its popularization, were emphasized.
