CITY "D" - this is the first and most vivid impression of the city, which captivated the heart and captivated the soul of a talented artist from Tbilisi. It would seem that what can surprise and impress a creative person in the mining capital, in a city that is an industrial giant, in a city with many pipes, environmental problems and mines?
But the famous Georgian artist Avtandil Gurgenidze dedicated his next exhibition of paintings to Donetsk - the city of “million roses”.
The sparkling gold, silver and bright shades of coral, orange and sky blue are the main gamma in Gurgenidze’s Donetsk works. The capital of Donbass in the paintings of the Georgian artist literally glows with bright colors and warm colors. Here, quietly falling snow on the roof of the Donbass Arena, and night lights affectionately illuminate the bridge over the Kalmius River. Crowds of jubilant fans roam here, after the winning match of FC Shakhtar and the sun rises slowly, illuminating the early silence and heaps of an industrial city, such a beautiful and mysterious one.
Many residents can recognize themselves and their friends in Gurgenidze’s Donetsk paintings: take a closer look, do you happen to stroll around Donetsk Gurgenidze, listening to the quiet whisper of the falling stars, or sit on a forged bench on the embankment?
The fanciful ornament of smoke flowing from the pipes, curling into funny patterns turns into a flower, then into a lace ribbon, then into a heart… the artist’s heart, a piece of which will forever remain in this city, the city of “D”.
“It is difficult to convey in words the depth of feelings and admiration that this city aroused in me. I was fortunate enough to live and create in Donetsk for 10 days, wander around its streets, parks and squares, “get sick” with the Donetsk people at the football stadium, visit the theater, museums, cozy city cafes, and just talk with residents, many of whom have become very good friends to me. This is a beautiful city with its own special soul and wonderful people. Donetsk inspired me to a series of paintings. I invite all residents and guests of Donetsk to visit the exhibition of my works, which will be held at the Victoria Hotel Center (Donetsk, Prospect Mira, 14-A) from April 11 to May 15, 2013. The grand opening will take place on April 11 from 16:00 to 21:00. I will be glad to meet you! ”Avtandil Gurgenidze.
At the exhibition “CITY“ D ”, the author’s works from the“ Art Avia ”project will be presented - these are paintings made on UIA hygiene air packages. The Art Avia project was a huge success among the Kiev public, who met with unusual aviation art in January 2013. A part of the exhibition arrived in Donetsk and will be presented as part of the CITY D project.
