Concert season 2022 at the Pushkin Museum im. A. S. Pushkin is dedicated to the “living and forgotten classics” and combines in its programs both well-known and little-studied works, names and genres. In the Memorial Apartment of Svyatoslav Richter, a renewed exposition will open in March, and in October, the exhibition “Svyatoslav Richter. Theatrical novel. The family subscription “Slovo. Music. The Game”, the work of the Literary and Musical Lounge will resume. The season will end with the XLII International Music Festival "December Evenings of Svyatoslav Richter". Tickets for concerts and exhibitions at the Sviatoslav Richter Memorial Apartment are available online.
The chosen theme of the new season made it possible to combine in the programs the names of outstanding composers and their talented contemporaries, who found themselves in the shadow of geniuses, in particular, Scriabin and Chiurlionis, Shostakovich and Weinberg; recall the works of famous musicians who have fallen out of the repertoire of performers, as well as pay tribute to the little-studied genres of Russian music and forgotten composer dynasties: Nikolai and Alexander Tcherepnin, the numerous sons of Johann Sebastian Bach. One of the concerts is dedicated to the now little-known contemporary of Glinka and Pushkin, and at one time the favorite of musical Moscow, Iosif Genishte, other programs open unknown pages of Russian musical music of the 18th century, presenting the once famous "Germans in Russia", as well as the cants of the Petrine era. The “forgotten classics” include works by women composers: Pauline Viardot,
The concerts will feature rarely performed opuses by Claude Debussy and Deod de Severac, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Isaac Albéniz, Camille Saint-Saens and Ralph Vaughan-Williams. Special mention in the programs deserves both the works of the masters of the 20th century - Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Prokofiev, Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg and Dmitry Shostakovich, as well as the works of our contemporaries, who determined the pulse of the musical life of the late 20th and early 21st centuries - Alfred Schnittke, Edison Denisov, Leonid Desyatnikov, Henri Dutilleux, Tristan Murail, Beat Furrer, Thierry Escaech, Daniel Schnyder, Thomas Ades and John Adams. The decoration of the concert programs will be a dialogue with the "eternally living classics" of the past represented by Bach, Rameau, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Medtner.
Famous performers, stars of different generations will take part in the concerts - Alexey Lyubimov, Alexander Gindin, Lyudmila Berlinskaya and Artur Ansel, Mona Khaba and Mikhail Dubov, Pyotr Laul, Pyotr Aidu, Polina Osetinskaya, Lukas Genyushas and Anna Genyushene, Mikhail Mordvinov, Roman Mints, Marina Katarzhnova, Elena Revich, Alexander Trostyansky, Nikita Borisoglebsky, Rust Pozyumsky, Pavel Romanenko, Andrey Usov, Sergey Poltavsky, Evgeny Rumyantsev, Yana Ivanilova, Maria Ostroukhova, Alisa Ten, Maxim Sazhin, Mikhail Beznosov, Maria Fedotova, Grigory Krotenko, famous ensembles MASM, Rusquartet, Classica Plus, soloists of the Pratum Integrum orchestra and the Moscow Virtuosos chamber orchestra and others.
In March, a re-exposition dedicated to the birthday of Svyatoslav Richter will open - it will feature items from the maestro’s collection, the funds of the Pushkin Museum and the Pianist’s Memorial Apartment. At the end of October, the main exhibition of the season will take place - “Svyatoslav Richter. Theatrical Romance, which tells about the musician’s friendship with famous actors, directors, stage designers, about iconic productions of drama and musical theaters marked by Richter. The exhibition will feature works by artists of the 20th century, Richter’s pastels and drawings, rare materials from the pianist’s archive and other museums, and unique newsreels.
Also the Department of Musical Culture of the Pushkin Museum im. A. S. Pushkin is preparing the XLII International Music Festival "December Evenings of Svyatoslav Richter" for the exhibition "Age of Arcimboldo" and the festival of young stars of the Russian performing school "Stayers", which will be held at the museum for the third time in January 2023.
REFERENCE
Department of Musical Culture of the Pushkin Museum im. A. S. Pushkin was created in 1999. This event, as a result of many years of friendly and creative contacts between I. A. Antonova and the great pianist S. T. Richter, is on a par with the organization of the international festival "December Evenings", as well as the transfer of the musician’s collection bequeathed to the museum and, finally, the creation of the Svyatoslav Memorial Apartment Richter in 1997. I. A. Antonova was the first who decided to implement the idea of synthesis of arts in the space of the Pushkin Museum, thus reflecting the main vector of the development of culture of the 20th century. Today, the Department of Musical Culture is preparing a variety of programs and projects: research, educational, exhibition and concert, both in the Svyatoslav Richter Memorial Apartment and in the halls of the Pushkin Museum im. A. S. Pushkin.
The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is a museum complex that has one of the largest art collections in Russia of foreign art from ancient times to the present day. The museum has in its fund about 700,000 original works created by masters of different eras - from ancient Egypt and ancient Greece to the present day. Particularly famous is the museum collection of French art of the 19th-20th centuries, which was based on the collections of patrons Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov, represented by iconic works by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and others masters. The museum funds continue to be actively replenished. Since 2018, the Pushkin Museum, within the framework of the “Pushkin XXI” direction, began to form the first collection of media art in Russia.
