The Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art presents an exhibition of sculptures by the contemporary classic George Frangulyan, whose works are stored in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum. Pushkin and the Russian Museum and adorn the streets of various cities.
Visitors to the Erart Museum will be able to get acquainted with the easel and monumental sculpture of George Frangulyan, world famous for which the monuments to Peter I in Antwerp and Alexander Pushkin in Brussels brought. In 2007, in Venice, in the waters of the lagoon between the Fondamento Nuove embankment and the island of San Michele, a unique sculptural composition “Rook Dante” created by Frangulyan was installed. In Russia, the name of the sculptor is associated with the monuments to Bulat Okudzhava and Joseph Brodsky, as well as with the memorial Wall of Sorrow - the first national monument to the victims of political repression. In each of the works, the deep, intimate, eternal is expressed in the unique plastic language inherent in the author.
The exhibition in the Erarta Museum presents about 50 works made of marble, bronze, wood, copper, brass and glass. In addition to sculptural objects, the exposition consists of spatial structures, or “structures”, reliefs, as well as cardboards and graphic sheets, which reflect the stages of work on the compositions. The classical art education received at Stroganovka, combined with many years of professional experience, gives the sculptor complete freedom in choosing equipment and materials.
The works presented at the Erart Museum exhibition are united by a common idea: sculpture is able to influence the surrounding space and shape it primarily due to the expressiveness of form, and then to the plot. Its monumentality is not determined by size at all: it is expressed in the plastic idea that underlies the work.
Even the smallest thing can be monumental, the sculptor believes. Visitors to the Erarta Museum will be able to verify this from June 28 to October 20, 2019. Entrance to the exhibition "Solid Line" is free for owners of Subscriptions to the Erarta Museum.
