November 10 and 11 Youth Theater named after A.A. Bryantseva will present to the Moscow public some of the most resonant performances in St. Petersburg - “Profitable Place” and “Little Tragedies”. The star cast, talented directing and exquisite scenography of these productions have already brought success to performances both on the native stage, and in various parts of our country and beyond, where the theater has been on tour.
St. Petersburg Youth Theater is a theater with a rich history, a “special-purpose theater”, as its founder Alexander Bryantsev defined his ideology. The repertoire of the theater includes performances for children and adults, classical and modern drama, traditional theater forms and experimental productions.
Two performances staged in timeless classics - Pushkin and Ostrovsky - are going on tour to Moscow. Creative methods and directorial ways of reading textbooks in these two productions are fundamentally different. If “Profitable Place” directed by Dmitry Astrakhan is a celebration of theatrical tradition, classical in form and extremely up-to-date in content, then “Little Tragedies” by Ruslan Kudashov is a bold experiment that leads the audience through the whole performance to answers to the main Pushkin’s questions using non-trivial methods.

"PLUM"
The classic play by Alexander Ostrovsky was staged by the cult director of theater and cinema, Honored Artist of Russia - Dmitry Astrahan, widely known for his film works. It was he who made such famous films as “Crossroads” with Leonid Yarmolnik in the title role, “You are mine alone” with Alexander Zbruyev and Marina Neyelova, “Children” and others. The director often raises social, topical themes and the play “Profitable” in his work. place ”is no exception. In the plot of the play, the director saw a reflection of modern reality, and in the characters - the heroes of our time.
The young man Vasily Zhadov (performed by the favorite of the Petersburg public Ivan Batarev) decides to live in good conscience, to achieve career heights with honest work. He believes in love and is convinced that his chosen one will go along with him this long, difficult, but the only true, in his opinion, path. The hero is faced with insurmountable obstacles: he is like a raven in this world of corruption, self-interest and reverence, in which his idealistic principles are considered stupid. Lively characters, the pulse of time, recognizable characters - all this makes the performance attractive for all ages - for young people and for the older generation. And the sincere and lively play of the actors awakens a wide variety of feelings and emotions in the audience: from quiet sadness to a flood of laughter, from indignation to sympathy.
Director about the play: “The pathos of the play is quite topical: by and large, this is a performance about corruption that permeates all walks of life, becoming its norm. Officials are convinced that it’s impossible to live without bribes; those who don’t take it are a coward or a fool. And public opinion is not a hindrance. Listen to the text: “We have no public opinion and cannot be. Not caught - not a thief, here’s all the public opinion. ” Doesn’t resemble anything? It’s just journalism of the new time, an off-screen text from a hot television plot, and not the 19th century. ”

“LITTLE TRAGEDIES”
The director of the performance, Ruslan Kudashov, is a well-known and respected personality in theatrical Russia. What are his numerous regalia worth: the winner of the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland Order of the II degree, the laureate of the highest national theater award Golden Mask, the highest St. Petersburg theater award Golden Soffit, the highest national award in the field of theater art for children and teenagers "Harlequin" and many others, nominee for the Dog magazine award. Ru, "TOP 50: The most famous people of St. Petersburg"… Ruslan Kudashov created his own unique directorial style: as a puppet actor by training, he masterfully combines elements of puppet and drama theater in his performances, doing this not literally, but figuratively, thereby creating a truly enchanting atmosphere on stage.
“Little Tragedies”, one of the most ambitious in form and meaning of the director’s performances, since the premiere managed to gain fame not only in his native city, but also outside it: in February 2016, the production opened the 23rd International Pushkin Festival in Pskov, and in September 2016, the performance became the headliner of the unprecedented international theater project “St. Petersburg-Avignon. St. Petersburg Seasons - 2016 ”in France.
“Little Tragedies” is an original interpretation of the cycle of plays by A. S. Pushkin. The production captures the attention of the viewer, starting from the very first stage, and holds it until the very end. Without departing a letter from the classical text, the director weaves into the canvas of the play a gallery of vivid acting images, music of various genres - from Mozart’s classics to modern compositions by Björk and 50 Cent, a play of light and spectacular visual techniques. The artist Nikolai Slobodyanik, a student of the famous Eduard Kochergin, creates a unique set design on the stage using the most unexpected materials: tons of natural sand, a human skeleton 12 meters high and much more. The performance amazes and admires even the most avid theatergoers.
Many theater critics noted the acting success of the play. Dmitry Tsilikin enthusiastically wrote in his review about the role of People’s Artist of Russia Nikolai Ivanov: “In“ The Squinty Knight ”Nikolai Ivanov-Baron discouraged him with the discovery: he is by no means a familiar gloomy old miser; he, beaming with a smile, loved by several generations of theater and moviegoers, hurries to faithful chests just like a young rake. " The success of the artist was also noted by the leadership of the city: in June 2016 Nikolai Ivanov was awarded the Certificate of Governor of St. Petersburg for playing the role of Baron.
The study of human passions and vices is the main task that the creators of the play are trying to solve. The director of the play: "Everyone can stumble into the abyss of" countless passions of humanity, like sand. " Through the heroes of "Little Tragedies" we try to talk about ourselves, to find in ourselves sprouts of vices that can lead to death, regardless of time, place of action and age of a person. Hiding behind a multitude of fashionable “concepts”, “philosophies”, “aesthetics”, a person is still not protected in the face of Destiny, either purifying us with a test, or relegating us to dust. ”
