January 18 at 16.00 in the Manor of Sukachev opens a photo exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the expedition to the Okinsky guard of Peter Kropotkin. Members of the Russian Geographical Society and the Club of Reporting and Genre Photography Anna Dmitrieva and Evgeny Sorokin walked the paths of the famous researcher to show the pristine beauty of Siberian nature.
In 1867, on the instructions of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, the young scientist Pyotr Kropotkin set off from Irkutsk along the Tunkinsky Valley and the Okinsky Plateau in search of a waterfall comparable in height and strength to Niagara. The expedition was unsuccessful, but the outstanding result of this trip was the study and a detailed description of several extinct volcanoes, one of which was later named after Kropotkin. In addition, the scientist described the life and relationships of local residents, especially their appearance and economy, and also discovered ancient monuments.
150 years later, photographers Anna Dmitrieva and Yevgeny Sorokin, who for several years specially traveled to the Okinsky district of Buryatia for filming, passed the expedition of Peter Kropotkin. One of the most important points of their route was the stunning Dabat Falls (height of water fall - 85 m), which, presumably, dreamed of finding Kropotkin. The exhibition not only reveals to the viewer the unique beauty of Siberian nature, but also aims to change the idea of Peter Kropotkin, known today primarily as a theorist of anarchism.
The exposition “A Trip to the Okinsky Guard” will open on January 18 at 16.00 in the Estate of V.P. Sukachev (112 December Events Street). Entrance to the opening is free. Phone for inquiries: 53-12-24. The exhibition will run until February 11th.
