Beyond the bustle of everyday life, we often do not notice the world around us, we rush along the usual routes, trying to catch everything and overtake time. Or maybe it’s worth stopping sometimes and looking around?
In mirrored display cases and glass of offices, in the smooth surface of ponds and just puddles after rain, you can see another world. That it is just a reflection or a parallel world, existing outside of our reality.
An attempt to show this “other world” was made by Konstantin Markov in the project: “Reflected Reality”.
With the help of a camera, the author captured pictures of the reflected world at various points in its existence.
If you look closely at these works, a lot of interesting things are revealed. For example, Moscow yard. The photograph shows a reflection of an old Moscow house (built in 1932) in the glass wall of the Academy of Budget and Finance in Maly Zlatoustinsky Lane. Peer at this picture and in the lower left quarter of the work you will see a strange face. Where did he come from?
There was once a monastery on the site of the old Moscow house. Moreover, the author repeatedly shot this story at different times of the year and day, and only once in a series of 20 frames did one appear on one of them. So what kind of face is this: mysticism or a greeting from a parallel world…?
And here’s another shot: “Water Mosaic”. It was made in the city of Alesund (Norway). Pay attention to the upper right quarter of the picture - again the face of a young girl. But just a year before this shoot, a young girl drowned in this place. And again, this vision is only in one frame.
Not surprisingly, the reflected world gives us some information. Today, scientists from different countries studying the phenomenon of subtle energies have come to the conclusion that mirror surfaces have the property of memory. For example, they remember and transmit information of the subconscious of a person who looks into a mirror surface.
But after all, mirrored surfaces reflect the whole world around us: at home; cars; ships yachts; the clouds; the mountains…
It is these paintings of the reflection of the surrounding world that form the basis of the photographs of Konstantin Markov presented in the project "Reflected Reality".
This project can be called a continuation of the project “Urbanisms”, in which the author achieved a synthesis of a real architectural urban motif and perfected its formal artistic interpretation.
In the new project, the author continues to use the mirror capabilities of the modern metropolis, but most of Konstantin’s photographs are associated with reflections in the aquatic environment.
The aquatic environment is fertile ground for the photographer. The frozen water surface reflects colorful houses and boats, creating a picturesque picture of eternal peace. But a gentle breeze blew and the idyll instantly turns into a multi-colored kaleidoscope, which Konstantin Markov fixes with his camera.
The work of the photographer Konstantin Markov was met and appreciated with great interest in the projects of the Creative Union of Artists, in particular, the theme of reflected reality took its rightful place in the project of the TSHR photo workshop led by Galina Poloz. The theme of the work of the creative workshop of 2015 is “Outside”. Project participants explore the categories of “in” and “outside” of which a person is located in general, and in particular a creative person in today’s world. Within the framework of the project, a personal exhibition of Konstantin Markov on the theme “Out of Reality” is planned.
