The workshop will focus on working on its own photo book. Within 4 days, participants will learn about the principles of editing and organizing material, get acquainted with the main aspects of design, typography, learn about the nuances associated with the use of a particular material, and also work with layouts.
In order to take part in the master class, you must have at least one photo project, consisting of at least 20-40 images, which, as you think, fit into the book.
Kalin Kruse will show the best paper samples, types of covers, as well as ready-made books with a good design. Materiality plays a big role in creating a book. Therefore, for clarity, Kalin will also show good photo projects with poor design decisions. He will also demonstrate his own work, explaining on this material why a particular decision was made - what is the idea, how it was done, etc.
After an introductory lesson with someone else’s material, the group will begin to work on its own projects - to discuss first ideas together. In the following days, all participants will work independently, but with the direct support of Kalina.
As a result of the master class, everyone will make a physical prototype of their future book.
Calin Kruse (Germany) is a freelance photographer, curator and publisher of dienacht publishing + magazine, founder of graphic design studio FLUUT.
