On December 15, at 19:00, the Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography will meet with young Russian photographers Dmitry Lukyanov and Olya Ivanova and present the new FUEL book, Holidays in Soviet Sanatoriums.
The idea of creating a project dedicated to Soviet sanatoriums belongs to the journalist Maryam Omidi, who became interested in this topic after Rob Hornsty’s The Sochi Project saw photos of the Metallurg sanatorium. Maryam began to read about the history of Soviet sanatoriums and their place in the sociocultural reality of the USSR. A year later, she decided to plunge into the sanatorium atmosphere and went to the resort of Khoja obi Garm in Tajikistan, where her decision finally took shape to document the legacy of “utopian socialist ideals”.
