Firinat Gaptukhaevich Khalikov - recognized artist, Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan named after Gabdulla Tukai, member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
Firinat Khalikov was born in 1957 in the city of Donetsk, Ukrainian SSR. He graduated from the Kirov Art College. A. A. Rylova, then studied in Kazan at the Creative Painting Workshop of the Russian Academy of Arts under the guidance of academician, People’s Artist of the USSR Kh. A. Yakupov.
Khalikov gained popularity on a large-scale plan of paintings on historical themes. For more than twenty years, he has embodied the dramatic pages of history in his works. In contact with historians and archaeologists, he creates a collective image of medieval Kazan. In his multi-figured canvases and historical landscapes, thousands of interested viewers see Ancient Kazan lost in the annals of history: its building power (fortresses, mosques, Khan’s palaces, neighborhoods, colorful bazaars) and the legendary Kazan (Syuyumbike, Kul Sharif, Muhamedyar, etc.).
The art of the master of historical and architectural reconstructions is combined with the skill of a wonderful landscape painter and ethnoportretist. His landscape paintings are perceived as a poetic story. With particular love are those works of the painter in which he shows the life and life of the villagers.
An interesting page in the work of Firinat Khalikov is the graphics. The artist’s graphic works can be called "reflections with a pencil in his hands." Graphic thinking, so characteristic of the art of the Islamic world, was vividly embodied in the monumental and decorative works of Khalikov related to the ornamental and calligraphic design of mosques in Kazan and Moscow.
At the exhibition opening on March 1, 2018 in the Khazine NHC, more than fifty works of painting and graphics by Firinat Khalikov from the collection of the Pushkin Museum of the RT and from the artist’s collection, created by him in different years of his life, will be presented.
