The Moscow Museum of Modern Art presents Philip Orlov’s exhibition “The Pit” - the first museum project of the young artist, a graduate of the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.
Orlov creates an image of a certain time; the artist’s focus is always on an unknown “hero”: in his works there are pre-revolutionary peasants, workers of the 20s and 30s, and representatives of subcultures of the 90s and 00s. The project consists of 4 episodes, each of which is dedicated to certain characters: “Heroes”, “Workers”, “Peasants” and “Shpans”. An important place in the project is occupied by a series of works about “yard life” - genre scenes and sketches of the atmosphere familiar to the artist from his youth, and portraits of characteristic characters of past decades. Orlov’s creative handwriting is characterized by large faces and exaggerated figures, which are cramped in the sheet format, as well as increased emotionality and expressiveness.
The exhibition, which unfolded on two floors of a building on Gogolevsky Boulevard, included more than 200 works: both small-format works and large-scale canvases, which the artist creates not only in painting, but also in graphic techniques.
The exhibition was organized with the support of Olga Yuryevna Nikitina.
