The Music and Visual Arts Festival Flow ended in Helsinki on August 12th. Already today, a limited batch of tickets for the early bird category for 2019 has gone on sale.
Flow 2018, tickets for which were completely sold out before the start of the festival, was visited by 84,000 guests from Finland, Russia and other countries. The audience of many thousands was attracted not only by the music program. Of great interest was also the art component and the gastronomic line-up, which combined the 40 best restaurant projects in Helsinki.
For three days at Flow, 145 concerts took place on 10 stages. This year the festival hosted artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys, Patti Smith, Loreen Hill, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lucca Lee, St. Vincent, Fever Ray, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Bonobo, George Smith, Brockhampton and many others.
In addition to several large venues that can accommodate from 15 to 25 thousand spectators, Flow was affected by more compact scenes with the original program. The main characters of the modern electronic scene performed at the Resident Advisor Front Yard: Moodymann, Peggy Gou, Helena Hauff, Yaeji and others. Balloon 360 introduced professional jazzmen and artists from Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sun Effects Voimala has become the center of experimental music. The concerts of Lubomir Melnik, Terry Riley, Abul Mogard, the signers and founders of the Music From Memory label took place here. Backyard, surrounded by greenery, brought together legendary DJs and vinyl collectors: Sadar Bahar, Chee Shimizu, Joe Claussell, Coleen ’Cosmo’ Murphy and others.
Throughout the weekend, Flow had the Finnkino Pop-up Cinema. In the Tiivistämö space, there were screenings of works by reputable European directors, classics of world cinema and animation.
On Sunday, the festival held the traditional family holiday Family Sunday. A special program was prepared for the children and their parents: film screenings, a disco party, creative master classes, yoga and skateboarding classes.
Following the Sustainable Flow environmental responsibility program, the festival either recycles or reuses 100% of the waste produced. Part of the garbage is sent to the plant for subsequent generation of energy. The festival also focuses on controlling carbon dioxide emissions.
