"Cartoon Factory" is a unique entertainment and educational platform dedicated to animation. Here, children and adults can not only see how cartoons are made in different techniques, but also participate in their creation from idea to the finished film: here they will come up with stories and characters, draw, sculpt or collect characters, revive them and voice them. Classes at the Factory are conducted by the best artists, screenwriters, animators, and voice masters of leading Russian studios.
In 15 workshops, small and adult animators will make cartoons in the usual techniques - hand-drawn, plasticine, puppet - and in rarer ones, for example, clothing animations, sand or abstract animations. Participants will build their film pavilion, work in a studio of scenery or shadow theater, record and animate the sound in the voice acting workshop, make a cartoon with Lego characters, learn about the magic of pixelation (this is one of the animation techniques) and create special effects for the movie. In the pavilion of the Cartoon Network TV channel, a studio will operate where, using the simplest things - paper, pencil and telephone - it will be possible to make cartoons with your favorite characters in the animated series.
Every day at the "Cartoon Factory" will be held three sessions lasting 2 hours: morning, afternoon, evening. All workshops are divided into 5 sets-routes, each of which is assigned a color. For example, a red set combines a scenario workshop, a decoration workshop and a film studio, a blue one - doll and sand animation workshops and a shadow theater and so on. The white set is intended for the youngest visitors 3-6 years old and is available only accompanied by an adult.
In the recreation area, children and adults are waiting for a cafe, a lecture hall from the educational web project "Animation and Me", an exhibition of animated sketches and sketches. The festival showroom and shops with children’s books from the most famous Moscow publishers will also open here.
You can buy a ticket for one or several sessions at once and participate in several sets of the Factory. Each ticket - participation in three workshops of the set and in any additional activities. A full description of sets and workshops is available at https://www.multfest.ru/
Ticket price: children - 1200 rubles / 600 rubles - for an accompanying adult. When buying group tickets, special conditions apply. Tickets can be bought at the box office of the Museum of Moscow, on the website of the Museum of Moscow, or on the website of the Grand Cartoon Festival.
Cartoon Factory Program
set 1. RED
Script workshop
A good cartoon starts with a good story. And what is the difference between history and non-history? There are almost twice as many pitfalls in creating a script for an animated film than for a movie. Together with the scriptwriters of the leading animation studios, the workshop participants will plunge into the world of words, dialogues and synopsises. We will discuss your cartoon ideas, do exercises to invent custom stories and try to draw our first storyboards.
Scenery Workshop
To start shooting a cartoon, you need to prepare what you want to shoot: scenery, characters, backgrounds, interchangeable phases. In the scenery workshop, participants will learn how to do this, what materials are best used and even what parts to cut a character to make it convenient to animate.
Shooting Pavilion
In today’s world, you don’t need to have a large amount of equipment to make your own cartoon. Take the smartphone out of your pocket, download the application, grab the character that you made in the scenery workshop, and we will tell you how it can be revived and how to properly organize the film set even at home.
set 2. YELLOW
Plasticine animation workshop
Plasticine is not such a simple material as it might seem at first glance. It can be flat or bulky, hot or cold. It can be melted and mixed like paints to achieve a specific shade. In the plasticine animation workshop, we will get to know the material more closely and learn how to liven it up excitingly.
Rendering Pixel Workshop
Why shoot cartoons with images of people when there is video? Because in the video a person can only do what he is physically capable of. In pixelation, the possibilities are endless! To fly? Easily! Turn into a hat? You are welcome! And if you add hand-drawn animation to each episode, you get a whole new world.
Workshop of subject animation
Imagine that you are a magician and can revive around yourself absolutely any item. A spoon will easily pass through the table and turn into a fork, the water in the glass will freeze without a refrigerator, and the circle will easily turn into a volume square. In the subject animation workshop, participants will be able to play a cartoon effortlessly from large geometric cardboard shapes, reducing, transforming and transforming them, almost by the power of thought. The result of the workshop will be a small animation sketch.
set 3. GREEN
Hand-drawn animation workshop
Hand-drawn animation is a complex and time-consuming process. An entire team is working on one small film. In the workshop we will learn how to create a classic hand-drawn animation, how the "key" differs from the "phase", why the multiplier needs pins and what it is. Everyone will make a small part of the animation, and at the end of the festival we will collect a whole cartoon!
Voice Workshop
Shumoteka is a warehouse of the most various sounds, noises and voices. To write down what sounds like a falling spoon, a bird taking off, or a book open in the wind? Easily! Under the guidance of the voice master Alexander Chirkov, the participants will collect their own noise, the sounds of which will be used to decorate the cartoons shot at the Factory.
Sound Animation Workshop
And you know that you can translate any image into sound and vice versa. Under certain circumstances, the sound itself can create an image. We will learn how it will look, look into sound kaleidoscopes, touch abstraction, get acquainted with the concepts of cymatics and sound synchronization. Perhaps this year the workshop of sound animation will be the most experimental and inspiring.
set 4. BLUE
Puppet animation workshop
In childhood, we all play dolls, imagine that they are alive: they know how to move, talk, breathe. Or maybe this is so, but it only seems to us that we are managing them? We’ll check it at the master class: we’ll make simple dolls, direct the camera and light at them and see what ideas they want to show us.
Sand animation workshop
Perhaps you have already seen in the recording (and if you’re lucky, then live) performance of sand animators. Indeed, when the artist’s hands create magical images flowing into each other on a luminous table, it’s impossible to take your eyes off. During the master class, we will get acquainted with the most diverse and amazing types of sand animation, learn everything about the structure of this process and, of course, try it in practice.
Shadow Theater Workshop
It will be dark here and not at all scary. Together with the masters of the shadow theater, we will try to put on our own short performance, in the process, analyzing how the space of the shadow theater is arranged: how to put the light on, what is better to hang and where to stand so that only the character is visible on the stage? We will reveal all the secrets and practice in managing our own puppets.
set 5. WHITE / For babies 3-6 years old
Abstract animation workshop
What is abstraction? How to become an artist-abstractionist? And how to become an artist-animator-abstractionist? Participants will receive answers to all these questions in the Abstract Animation Workshop. This type of animation is one of the key styles in which cartoons were shot at the beginning of the 20th century. Indeed, abstraction is the best field for experimentation if you take the first steps in the art of creating cartoons. You are an artist, you see so! And we will help you to make a short animated sketch from abstract drawings.
Lego animation workshop
Lego Designer is a universal tool. From it you can not only add entire cities and space stations, but also make fascinating and beautiful cartoons with it. How to properly disassemble and assemble at home your favorite designer kit, so that the details turn out to be a cartoon, we will tell the participants in the lego animation workshop. And to fix the material, remove the short cartoon.
Clothing animation workshop
To dress or wear? The clothing animation workshop does not ask such questions. It will be necessary to remove clothes from the hanger, put it on the set under the camera and animation artists will help to revive the most ordinary T-shirts or jeans, turning them into giant crocodiles or good birds.
