The exhibition project is a single audiovisual installation, which is dedicated to the phenomenon of residence and alternative methods of studying the environment in order to search for new impressions and semantic artifacts. This format allows you to immerse yourself in the field study of the local, cultural, natural and social context of the area.
“In the conditions of a changing present, the density of the electronic environment and screen reality, the demand for authenticity is updated - in materials, form, content, communication. Going “out into the open air” with a group and returning interest to the artist’s plein air practice allows you to make up for the missing experience or impression. To capture space and time in a special form of artistic language, thereby expanding the methods and approaches in art in general,” shares curator of the exhibition Polina Dmitrieva.
“Psychogeographical” practice is one of the methods that underlies alternative environmental research. This is a practice in which the subjective experience of perceiving the environment (psycho) and the result of being in the space of urban and natural-social systems (geography) allows you to create a unique experience of being and perceiving space. Thus expanding personal experience, it makes it possible to create an alternative map of a place, forming a sensory idea of it.
The visuals of the installation are topographical material depicting a map of travels made by residents as part of expeditions in the North Caucasus on the territory of the Republic of Dagestan in the period from mid-2022 to 2024. The map does not focus on exact locations, but speaks to the scale of the collective experience of movement.
An audio composition covering the space of the exhibition hall – a landscape collected from field recordings of participants in the sound residency “Strong x Weird”.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM WITHIN THE EXHIBITION:
- Lecture “Practice of stay. “Strong” research residency method
- March 7 at 19:00
- Online
The curators of “Silno” will tell you how the program of the “mobile” educational institution - residence is organized and will share a map of trips made as part of expeditions in Dagestan in the period from mid-2022 to 2024.
“At the lecture we will pay attention to the phenomenon of residence and alternative methods of studying the environment in order to search for new impressions and semantic artifacts. Let’s talk about working with site-specific context. Let’s discuss how this practice is reflected in the projects of the residence participants. We will also talk about the experience of research trips, which are one of the most important parts of the educational process, where we immerse ourselves in the context of the environment through a live meeting,” Polina Dmitrieva.
Speakers: Polina Dmitrieva, Maxim Silenkov – founders and curators of “Silno”.
- Lecture “Light as a medium. Programming impressions"
- March 14 at 19:00
- Small Hall of the Russian State Library Free admission
At the lecture, invited guests Maria Gorokhvodatskaya, lighting designer and co-founder of the Poisson Spot bureau, and Elizaveta Kisten, an interdisciplinary artist, will share their professional experience of working with light, not only as a tool for illuminating space, but also its impact on human sensations.
“Light accompanies us everywhere: on the streets, indoors, in cinema, in art. Light creates atmosphere, emotions, and records these impressions in our memory. Together with the listeners, we will explore how different lighting techniques affect us and how to use them to create emotions in design, art and everyday life,” Maria Gorokhvodatskaya.
Lecturers will show in practice and real projects of the Poisson Spot bureau how lighting can harmoniously complement a space, thereby enhancing and expanding its capabilities.
Poisson Spot collaborated with GES-2, MMOMA, the Gulag History Museum, the Tsaritsyno Reserve Museum, Richter, Badlon, Cartier, etc.
Speakers:
Maria Gorokhvodatskaya is a lighting designer, creative director, and founder of the Poisson Spot bureau.
Elizaveta Kisten is a lighting designer and interdisciplinary artist.
Poisson Spot is a full service bureau. Lighting design, sound, graphics and decor are the tools with which we create scenography for space and events, working out the story and details. They work with exhibition spaces, galleries, concept stores, and events.

- Small Hall of the RGBM
Lecture and sound performance from participants of the Strong x Weird residency. Free admission
19:00 Lecture “Psychogeography in modern urban and natural environments”
At the lecture we will look at one of the most interesting and relevant practices in the study of the urban and public environment - psychogeography. A term coined by French philosopher Guy Debord in the 1950s. We will learn about the history of the origin of this movement, and analyze the role of sensory perceptions in the formation of psychogeographical experience. Let’s study the concept of "egregor" and consider research methods: situationism, chance, drift, maps, books, phone applications.
We will also consider the role of sound in creating the atmosphere and emotional coloring of various places, including the principle of psychoacoustics, the creation of sound and sensory maps. Let’s take an example of sound practices - deep listening, sound healing, the basics of field recording techniques.
Participants of the lecture are the curator of the sound residency “Strong x Weird” - Lisa Shumova, as well as graduate resident musicians Georgy Robakidze, Raushan Shafiggulin.
20:00 live performance / live performance “Strong x Weird”
