The first solo exhibition of the artist Yegor Fedorichev “Fold on the curtain” will open on September 12, at the start of the young art START TSSI VINZAVOD. The installation, tailored from banners found in landfills, building packaging, industrial fabrics and art canvases, will divide the site into two spaces. What is on the other side of the curtain? This question is asked by the artist himself and the viewer.
Egor Fedorichev experimenting with different surfaces, intuitively combining industrial readymades with canvas. The artist uses materials found in construction dumps to create an important statement: he represents cultural layers, including them in the surface space of the painting. Banners from old exhibitions and concerts become fragments of “archaeological painting”, wrappers with the names of construction companies and pieces of industrial fabric recall the cultural, social and political agenda of the past.
START artist Egor Fedorichev: “In this work it is important for me to say that the main idea of a work of art is a certain mystical inaccessibility, which is covered by visibility. It can be made up of advertising banners, shells, building bags or the artist’s canvas. In essence, they are no different from each other - all this is a different kind of surface. They carry a lot of meanings that are intertwined and lose their meaning. ”
Real and phantom, permitted and forbidden, mundane and special - Yegor Fedorichev builds a system of oppositions, visually separating the “worlds” with the help of a picturesque curtain. As an element that emphasizes the border, the artist uses a fold on the fabric. In the space separated by the canvas, he places flickering lights. They become a symbol of "another reality", hidden from view by a theatrical curtain of everyday life. The author tells the viewer: in an artistic utterance, there is always something outside the visual field, something that is on the verge of understanding the human mind.
Vera Trachtenberg, curator of the START Center for Contemporary Arts Winery project 2017/2018 season: “Creating a picturesque curtain, devoid of the traditional“ support ”in the form of a stretcher, Yegor addresses the eternal philosophical question: what is behind this curtain? is he
hides something that the viewer cannot see: the true state of things, the alignment of political forces. Thus, the author addresses the problems of “conspiracy theories” and post-truths, which are actualized by the current media to the limit. A fold on the curtain is a double play of complex concepts of subjectivity of reality, a ripple on the “iron curtain” of our consciousness, hiding a truth that we may never know. Fedorichev very subtly hints at the space on the other side of the curtain, including the mysterious flickering lights behind the fabric of the painting. These lights symbolize the processes that we are not allowed to comprehend, the very “other reality” hidden from our view by the theater curtain of everyday life. ”
"Fold on the curtain" - the first personal exhibition of Yegor Fedorichev, open to a wide audience. Participation in the START project will give him the opportunity to realize his ideas and develop them in the future.
