23 October 15.00 Curatorial tour of the exhibition
On September 24, the Nagornaya Gallery of the Moscow Exhibition Halls Association opens the United Team project, which examines the relationship between people and other agents through the prism of corporate culture.
During the work on the exhibition, the curators set themselves two research goals. The first is to study how connections are formed between participants in the process when they turn into one team (superorganism). The second is to look at the whole world and all connections in it as a huge corporation, in which even contradictions complement each other.
“Within the framework of the project, we present the Corporate culture as a mechanism that forms the system and model of the life of the team. The team members independently introduce into their lives regulated views of the world, role models that teach them a new common language of social behavior or tune in to it. By assimilating the general rules of life, the team members synchronize and turn into a single whole - a superorganism. Through this development, the corporate culture fulfills its main task - increasing the efficiency of the team, ”specifies the exhibition co-curator Eduard Krylov.
“In one way or another, we all face the peculiarities of being in a team,” continues co-curator Elena Sheveleva, “when we need to negotiate, look for compromises and come up with common rules in order to do a common cause together. And preferably successfully. But what if life itself is this “common cause? In our project, we are trying to look at the relationship of people from a new perspective. And thanks to the personal experience of all the participants, we, as curators, managed to put together an exposition that was reasonably realistic, reasonably speculative and with a certain amount of irony. "
Thus, the work of WHUHC directly develops the curatorial idea and shows the whole world as one parent corporation in which all people work. The company has its own campaign posters (sometimes conflicting with each other), merchandise and mission. In addition to corporateness, this work explores the aesthetics of office life, as well as in the works of the art group The ABC (Art Business Consulting), whose members enchant the details of everyday life. It can be perceived as a bug of the program or as its natural evolution.
Vik Laschenov, in his video work “One Floor Above, Singing Songs While Someone Swims with Dolphins,” shows office workers tired of corporate life and rushing into the forest. There they try to exist using algorithms of behavior learned over the years. But their colleagues believe that downshifting demons are to blame. Monika Dubinkaite continues the topic of reflection on staying in the system. Through still lifes against the background of the sky - a space that has no boundaries, she studies the sensations of being forced to be inside a superorganism.
Tina Shibalova examines how connections between agents of a collective begin to form. In the artist’s video, the participants accepted an invitation to dinner. Their task is to build a dialogue using non-verbal language. Ksenia Tikhomirova gives the viewer a chance to find himself in a situation in which a person loses his usual team, and artificial intelligence turns out to be his new colleague. At the same time, the computer does not seek to fully adapt to the language of a person, but is ready to make joint concessions in order to achieve a common goal.
During the exhibition, several curatorial excursions and performances "Five Steps to a United Team" will take place.
How often do you feel uncomfortable in unfamiliar surroundings?
Are you afraid to go there alone?
The corporate culture is against any inconvenience.
“At the opening there will be a performative training that will remove all possible fears for which you might not come to the event. We will combine different techniques that are actively used in corporations, turn them into art and live this joint experience with everyone, ”says the performance team leader Tina Shibalova.
Project curator - Eduard Krylov, Elena Sheveleva.
Participants of the exhibition are Monika Dubinkaite, Eduard Krylov, Vik Laschenov, Ksenia Tikhomirova, Tina Shibalova, The Art Business Consulting group.
The exposition includes photos, videos, installations.
