The Moscow Museum of Modern Art together with ASKERI GALLERY present a new project by Pavel Polyansky, which is dedicated to two modern realities of life: real and virtual.
The works of Pavel Polyansky not only analyze the progressive changes in society, but also reveal the very essence of intertwined machine technologies with the biological, social and spiritual needs of man, placing both sides of the world on a single plane.
The key character of the artist’s paintings is a woman, who in this context appears before the viewer as the personification of life, created by nature. Placed in a natural environment or urban landscape, she is surrounded by various smart gadgets: drones fly over her head like birds, bringing packages and gifts, and robo-dogs accompany her on a walk. The surface of the canvas is often covered with cracks, simulating an LCD screen or pixel blur. The digital world is noticeably becoming part of the real world.
Working in a unique technique similar to medieval grisaille, Polyansky foreshadows the decline of the "new Middle Ages" - a time when people are still afraid of excessive interference of technology in natural life processes, and partly anticipates the near future. Polyansky’s painting depicts the uniqueness of the new world, in which a person daily interacts with various devices. Many of the artist’s works, therefore, are a satire on the consumer society, which includes modern people. Polyansky is not afraid to pit man and nature, nature and high technology, aesthetics and the warmth of the human body and the indifferent cold of metal.
The exposition will allow you to get acquainted with the selected works of the artist, as well as give you the opportunity to feel involved in the world of the future, full of amazing discoveries and inventions.
