Igor Knyazev is a St. Petersburg artist, graphic artist and wood sculptor. He did not immediately decide on his profession: first he worked as a translator, then as a decorator at Gostiny Dvor, a designer at the Kazan Cathedral, and in the 90s, like many freedom lovers, he became a boiler operator. Then he became interested in the restoration of antique furniture, studied with the best masters of St. Petersburg and Paris and was highly valued among famous collectors.

Since the late 90s, Igor Knyazev has been an artist at the Dostoevsky Museum. He shares the writer’s view: "There is no object on earth that cannot be looked at from a comic point of view." It is this light irony that permeates all of the artist’s work that has become his distinctive feature. Igor Knyazev’s graphics, wooden sculpture, theatrical puppets and souvenirs always delicately balance between humor and seriousness, maintaining a connection with real events from Dostoevsky’s life and the memories of his contemporaries.
Knyazev’s projects are known in Russia and abroad. The Dostoevsky and Writers series was presented in various Russian and European cities, and some works became part of the museum collection. In 2019, together with costume designer Nika Velegzhaninova, he participated in the project of the Deputy Director of the Dostoevsky Museum Vera Biron, Dostoevsky Coloring Books, which was exhibited at more than 200 venues around the world in 2021 (the writer’s 200th anniversary). This year, Igor Knyazev and Vera Biron prepared a new series of coloring books for one of the famous publishing houses, dedicated to the novel Crime and Punishment.
The exhibition “Dostoevsky Pictures” presents works from different years, including works for museum exhibitions and performances of the FMD-Theater.
