The project "Road to Zurbagan" is dedicated to the remarkable Russian writer Alexander Grin, whose works have been read by more than one generation of romantics who are moving towards their dreams, despite obstacles. This exhibition was timed by the artists to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the release of one of his most famous novels, Scarlet Sails.
Zurbagan is a collective image of a seaside town in the works of Alexander Grin, who, in order to become a writer, had to escape from the city of Vyatka, which was close to his natural gift, where his family lived, and travel a lot, getting a job as a sailor on fishing and merchant ships. It is not known for certain which city became the prototype of Zurbagan. It could be any port city met by A. Green in his travels. But, undoubtedly, one thing - a small port city, whose life is directly connected and dependent on the unknown elements of the sea, can give a feeling of joy, reconcile with the imperfection of the reality of life of any person who went on a trip. And what can we say about indomitable romantics - creative people: poets, artists or writers, tired of the futile pursuit of the ghost of happiness. Maybe, It is not without reason that the pulsation of our hearts is so willingly synchronized with the rhythm of the oncoming waves, and all disagreements with the outside world are resolved during the journey from meeting with another reality! And also a dream… she loves those who look at the starry sky, watching the tide of waves, listening to the wind, seeing off the sun beyond the horizon…
With the Zurbagan art project, Moscow artists present the viewer with the image of this city, fictional by the great romantic writer, a ghost town that seems to be nearby, but also far away at the same time, will immerse the viewer “into the world of its brave, honest, proud and selfless people”, will help to feel “the desire for a varied life, full of risk, courage and a sense of high, characteristic of explorers, sailors and travelers” (K. Paustovsky). The road to Zurbagan lies through imagination and dreams, whose great power has always helped to stay in motion, search and implement creative plans. The road to Zurbagan will be a road to youth for some viewers, and the younger generation will receive the knowledge and experience of their predecessors from the project.
