For the closing period for visitors, the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture has prepared an informative online course for children 7-10 years old, which includes 4 lessons on the history of architecture. During the course, children will get acquainted with the houses in which Muscovites lived in different historical periods, learn how they were built and decorated, look inside and learn bizarre architectural terms. Course participants will socialize, dance and paper cut manor houses, mansions and chambers.
In the first lesson, children will get acquainted with the old Russian chambers, learn what a platband, curb, runner, tile is and how the chambers differ from the choir. In the second lesson, students will immerse themselves in the world of an urban estate and the classicism style. They will also get acquainted with such terms as columns with Corinthian capitals, rustic, enfilade, portico, front floor (mezzanine). The third session will focus on Art Nouveau and Ryabushinsky’s mansion, and participants will have to come up with their own wallpaper print and create a window frame project, inspired by reproductions of Shekhtel’s sketches. In the fourth lesson, children will learn about the avant-garde in architecture and the structure of the Melnikov House.
