February 4, 2021 Pro Art`s gallery opens a new personal art project of the artist Dmitry Zhiltsov “Wedding. St. Television, 14 ".
In his work, Dmitry Zhiltsov explores the problem of a "new picture", the theme of time, the fragility of reality, reflection and inner experiences of a person.
New series “Wedding. St. Television, 14 ”tells a personal story from the life of the artist’s family. Picturesque canvases-negatives appear in the exposition as reproduced artifacts, documentation of the chronicle of events of a family celebration, restored from particles of memories of loved ones and photographs from a wedding album.
“My parents’ wedding was celebrated in a new panel house in 1982. They worked at the Kaluga Turbine Works (KTZ). It was not possible to afford to celebrate the wedding in the restaurant, so the celebration was arranged right at home. This house number 14 on Television Street looked somehow awkward next to the houses of the old "Stalinist" buildings that surrounded it. He was too gray, long and ordinary… he always seemed to be something interesting to walk around, because everything around him was more interesting. " Dmitry Zhiltsov
The peculiarity of the artistic practice of Dmitry Zhiltsov is the rethinking of color in painting and the use of the method of checking the image by means of pictorial inversion. One of the proofs of the existence of color harmony is the phenomenon of optical color illusions, and our perception of color directly depends on the ability of the brain to perceive contrasting color solutions. But the main paradox of such a vision of the world is that our brain can be mistaken in the visual assessment of the visible, and in such cases an optical illusion arises, in which one of the sides of a specific feature of color perception is revealed.
At the exhibition “Wedding. St. Television, d. 14 ”, you can see this effect using the smartphone camera in inversion mode.
