The Grand Opening of the Exhibition of Paintings by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Yuri Surenovich Grigoryan and Member of the Union of Artists Yuri Yuryevich Grigoryan ─ “Dialogue with the Son” will be held at the MVK RAX Art Gallery of Zurab Tsereteli (19 Prechistenka St.).
Yuri Surenovich was born in 1946 and has been living and working in Moscow for more than half a century, but all his canvases breathe memories of his homeland Nagorno-Karabakh. Having received a thorough school of painting at the Moscow Art College in memory of 1905 and at the Moscow Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov, in the workshop of Professor N. A. Ponomarev, the artist found his own style, developed his own painting style and is now widely known as in Russia both abroad. His works are in demand among collectors, appreciated by eminent critics and art historians. The main features of his creative style are bright coloristic saturation, harmoniously built composition, original technique with which he achieves a complex and peculiar texture of the paint layer.
The images created by Yuri Surenovich immerse the viewer in the sunny world of the Caucasus and its inhabitants. Flowing colors and shapes smoothly, almost invisibly to the eye, the light and tonal environment fill the canvases with haze, a fleur of nostalgia for childhood spent in a mountain village.
The art critic Ilya Trofimov writes about the artist’s work: “One of the reasons for the emergence of this picturesque canon, in my opinion, is that the artist invariably addresses the key motives of his world outlook. Father’s house, the silhouette of a buffalo, female figures in traditional clothes, a dry tree, the topography of a village surrounded by mountains ─ those fundamental elements, without which there will be a separation from important for the artist human meanings ─ homeland, childhood, history… "
A separate niche in the artist’s work is portraiture. Wise men, beautiful women thoughtfully look into the distance with a faint smile, attracting and immersing the viewer into their inner world.
More than 60 works by Yuri Surenovich are in the collections of the largest art museums and galleries in Russia and the CIS countries, as well as in Russian and foreign private collections, for example, M. S. Gorbachev, Albert Gore and others. The artist has participated in more than 200 exhibitions and dozens of auctions, including charity.
Yuri Yuryevich Grigoryan was born in 1977 in Moscow. He received his elementary education at the Moscow Art Lyceum at the Academy of Arts, then he graduated from the V.I. Surikov Institute, having been awarded the Academy of Arts medal for his diploma work. Since 1997, the artist has participated in many youth exhibitions and to this day has been actively involved in a number of projects exhibiting his works at various creative venues. The paintings of Yu. Yu. Grigoryan are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, the State Museum of Oriental Art, as well as in private collections in Russia, Italy, Croatia, England, Australia, the USA, Canada, Germany, Korea, and China. Invariably involved in charity auctions.
Yuri Yuryevich also occupies the theme of the origins, the land of his ancestors, to which he often returns in search of inspiration. His works are distinguished by inner experience, reflection, transmitted through the images of the objective world, depicted with sharp black and white contrasts. It is in working with light that the artist’s own pictorial style is clearly manifested. The characteristic features of the artistic thinking of this author include the serial development of most topics of interest to him. So, the exposition presents the genre series “Children” and “Loneliness”, in which a lone figure on the canvas as a symbol of anxious mood and alienation contrasts with a bright and warm color palette.
This is not the first time father and son have participated in joint exhibitions; a number of them took place in Germany, Croatia, Armenia and Moscow. The current exposition includes more than 120 works, which will allow the viewer to fully appreciate the work of both painters.
