Moscow Business Square is the business venue of the Moscow International Film Festival, aimed at developing cooperation in the field of joint film production and distribution of audiovisual products, as well as expanding the access of Russian companies to foreign film and television markets. This year, Moscow Business Square will be held for the sixth time between June 21-24 and will bring together more than 400 film business professionals from around the world.
Along with business events held within the framework of the Berlin and Rotterdam film festivals, Moscow Business Square has become an effective platform for the development of film projects, as well as a place for cultural dialogue and business communication of producers, distributors, directors, representatives of film festivals and film funds.
The organizers of the Moscow Business Square are the Moscow International Film Festival and the RFilms company. The site is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
Traditionally, the main event of Moscow Business Square will be the presentation of new film projects as part of the Moscow Co-Production Forum. This year about 25 projects will be presented. At one time, film directors presented their film projects at the forum: Peter Greenaway, Victor Ginzburg, Olga Dykhovichnaya, Angelina Nikonova, Pavel Sanaev, Slava Ross, Dmitry Mamulia, Alexander Mindadze and many others. Also, many films participating in major international film festivals were presented in the form of film projects at the Moscow Forum of Co-production. The most famous films include:
- "Saturday " (Russia, Germany) - participant of the Berlin Film Festival 2011
- “Land of Oblivion” (France, Germany, Poland, Ukraine) - participant of the Venice Film Festival 2011
- Maroussia (France, Russia) - participant of the Berlin Film Festival 2013
- “40 days of silence” (Netherlands, Germany, France) - participant of the 2014 Berlin Film Festival
The central event of the business program this year will be events related to the film industry in Latin America. A delegation of more than 30 leading producers, distributors and representatives of cinema funds from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Chile is expected. In the framework of round tables and presentations, it will be possible to learn about financing and distribution schemes for films, opportunities for filming and much more. A master class will be held on filming and financing of the film participating in the official program of the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 - “Dust” (starring Gael Garcia Bernal), as well as the first successful Brazilian-Russian co-production “Red Russian”.
Within the framework of the traditional focus on the CIS countries, a round table will be held on the topic "Production and distribution of films in Central Asia . " As part of the round table, such projects as “He and She” (cash register of Kazakhstan in 2013), “Geologist. Stronger than Death ”(the first production film project in Uzbekistan),“ Salam, New York ”(the highest grossing film in the entire history of Kyrgyzstan’s independence), as well as other film projects.
The round table “ Export of formats and remakes ” will consider successful examples of selling formats of Russian television series abroad, the fate of the rights sold to remakes of Russian films, the prospects of creating remakes of successful Russian films in co-production
Some days of Moscow Business Square will be devoted to documentary and animated films .
A special event will be the round table “ Features of the production and distribution of biographical films (biopic) ” with the participation of Russian and foreign producers, as well as the mentor of Hollywood screenwriters - Professor Richard Krevolin.
On the last day of the event, together with the Sine Phantom Club, there will be a presentation of the Arsenal Institute of Film and Video Art (Germany) and the Forum program of the Berlin Film Festival.
