On September 21, 22, 2019, as part of the “Russian Seasons” in the Federal Republic of Germany, fans of choreographic art will be able to see the performances of St. Petersburg dancers and appreciate their highest performing level and skill. Only two evenings on the stage of the Dortmund Theater, with the support of the Committee on Culture of St. Petersburg, the International Dance Open ballet festival holds grand gala with soloists from leading ballet theaters of the Northern capital of Russia and Dortmund ballet.
The program, created specifically for the gala concert, will include both the most striking scenes from the classical ballets of world-famous domestic choreographers, as well as fragments of modern productions, original numbers inspired by new meanings of ancient fairy tales and ancient stories.
In the title parts, which are diametrically different in mood, plastic and atmosphere, shuffled so as not to reduce emotional stress in the auditorium, Dortmund spectators will see artists who applaud the most prestigious scenes in the world.
Leading soloists of the Leonid Yakobson Ballet Theater Sofya Matyushenskaya and Andrey Sorokin will present the full expression of the pas de deux from the ballet “Flames of Paris”, the authorship of which belongs to the choreographic genius of the Russian Soviet era Vasily Vainonen. It is curious that when staging dances for The Flames of Paris, the choreographer almost never used ethnographic material, but when the Leningrad ballet toured France in the fifties, the Basques recognized their dance as their own.
Sophia and Andrey will also see the famous “Choreographic Miniatures” by the unsurpassed master of plastic sketches, the outstanding choreographer of the twentieth century, Leonid Veniaminovich Yakobson. Another bright duet of the Theater, Alla Bocharova and Denis Klimuk, will continue to introduce the Dortmund ballet lovers to its unique heritage: the elegant Gala program includes the elegant, lightweight and swift Vienna Waltz, which went around the world and became the hallmark of the unique St. Petersburg troupe.
The composition of the dancers of the Dortmund Gala is rich in brilliant duets not only on stage, but also in life. Spectators will get acquainted with the main stellar couples of the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky theaters - Denis and Anastasia Matvienko and Marat Shemiunov and Irina Perren.
A fragment from the fabulous ballet performance “Peer Gynt” in the choreography of Edward Klug and the pas de deux from the ballet “Corsair” by Marius Petipa will allow Denis and Anastasia to demonstrate in full force not only the most sophisticated technique, but also a rare dramatic talent.
After rethinking and experiencing the history of Spartak on the stage, Marat and Irina will perform a win-win adagio from the spectacular ballet of the same name by Georgy Kovtun, will present the dance embodiment of the famous pop hit performed by Lara Fabian “Je suis malade” and bathe the audience in the waves of lyrical memories of the heroes Asaf Messerer.
Invited soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theater Igor Tsvirko and Mariinsky star Elena Evseeva will give all dance lovers the opportunity to enjoy immortal classics in impeccable performance: Pas de Dian from the ballet Esmeralda in choreography by Agrippina Vaganova and Grand Pas from the ballet Don Quixote by Alexander Gorsky authentic concert decoration.
The Dortmund Theater will be presented by Anna Tsygankova, Anna Tikhomirova and Istvan Simon. In addition to the world-famous Adagio from the ballet Romeo and Juliet by Leonid Lavrovsky and a fragment of the ballet Mikhail Fokin’s Videnie Roses, covered in fame by Nizhinsky and Karsavina, the dancers will perform a new ballet number created specifically for Russian Seasons - 2019 in Dortmund.
In the best traditions of the Gala of the stars of the International Ballet Festival Dance Open, the evening will end with a divertissement, in which all the artists of the project will take part.
From September 20 to 22, an exhibition of works by masters of ballet photography will be held in the main spectator lobby of the Dortmund Theater.
A gala concert in two sections will be held two evenings:
September 21 - beginning at 19:30;
September 22 - at 18.00.
The project was implemented by the St. Petersburg International Dance Open Ballet Festival by state order of the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg.
