Best of Russia is an unprecedented project in its essence. Combining well-known photographers and amateur beginners, giving them the opportunity to participate on equal terms and without restricting their choice of photos and themes, he formed an incredibly personal and at the same time objective view of 10 years of Russian history.

Almost three hundred thousand photographs from tens of thousands of people captured everything that excites each of them individually - and, as a result, society as a whole. Each year, in photos of Best of Russia, it conveys its atmosphere and, considering the photos of the participants and winners of the project, we can recall a whole decade from the life of the country.

A lot has happened over the years. And photography from the simple hobby of many has become a way of life for millions of people. There are new technical opportunities for shooting, editorial programs, an infinite number of filters - all that makes any “average” picture spectacular and very beautiful. But at the Best of Russia project, it was always important not so much the technical superiority of the author and the external impeccability of the image, but real emotion and strong expression. Sometimes naive, but always honest, photos of the winners of Best of Russia could reflect all the most important things that happened to us over these 10 years, everything that changed us all in one way or another.

Together with the project, a whole new generation of reportage, animalistic, fashion photography photographers grew. Professional authors unknown outside their small town were able to show their work to a wide audience, and star photographers were able to test themselves again in fair competition.

In its anniversary and last year for the project, Best of Russia decided to abandon the nominations "Nature", "Architecture", "Style". This year, the acceptance of work will go only in the nomination “People. Developments. Everyday life ”as the most fully reflecting the atmosphere of time and its measurement.

This year’s special theme for the festive project is Jubilees. Best of Russia plans to celebrate its 10th anniversary with an unusual exhibition and album, but this holiday is impossible without project participants. How does a resident of Russia celebrate anniversaries? In a huge country, where more than 190 peoples live, big holidays are celebrated in very different ways - and we are waiting for a variety of traditions, personal stories related to them. The photo can also capture the birthday of a family member and the anniversary of the institute in which the author of the picture is studying or working; Victory Day, wedding anniversary.

The expert council of the project, consisting of jury members of different years, will determine the winners of this year and the 100 best shots of the project in 10 years, which will be presented at the exhibition in the spring of 2018 at the WINZAVOD Center for Contemporary Art.
