On June 27, 2017, the ZIP group will present an interactive installation at the WINZAVOD Center for Contemporary Art as part of the anniversary cycle Farewell to Eternal Youth. The central square of the Center for Contemporary Arts Winzavod is transformed in the image of the Athenian agora and will become the largest public art street artist in Russia. The members of the group - Eldar Ganeev, Evgeny Rimkevich, brothers Vasily and Stepan Subbotin - in the framework of the celebration of the centenary of the 1917 Revolution, explore the topic of power and its images.
The installation center is a column with a monument - an abstract leader, in contrast to which there is an elevator. Anyone can stand up and become equal to the sculpture of a leader. Next to the pedestal is the "future" - a fallen column with colored seats, which refers to the 16th column of the temple of Zeus in Athens, which collapsed during a storm in 1852. According to the "spare parts" version, the column becomes a folk shop with chairs.
Artist Stepan Subbotin: “The WINZAVOD space interested us, first of all, with the opportunity to do a great job on the street. This is a real square: there are buildings around, people gather here, and some kind of life always happens. In the year of the centennial of the 1917 revolution, we want to explore a theme that has long been present in the history of art and society - the theme of squares and sculptures that stand on them. In our work, we try to demonstrate the error between reality and the idea of what a revolution is and what happens after it with power, how it is transformed. We want to reconcile reality with utopia through form. ”
Exhibition curator Anastasia Shavlokhova: “Since the late 1980s, the understanding of public and private has undergone major changes. New technologies, increasingly disconnecting people in real life, have become a catalyst for the global virtual world. The public sphere is being squeezed out into a virtual space where reality, fiction, fake and fantasy become part of one big game for the attention of the audience. ”
Simultaneously with the opening of the installation, the ZIP group at VINZAVOD will host the Vernissage Evening, a traditional event when galleries open their new exhibitions. An exhibition within the framework of the anniversary cycle - Evgeny Granilshchikov “The Last Song of the Evening” will also work on this day.
In 2017, the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art, one of the first private art centers in Russia, turns ten years old. During this time, along with WINZAVOD, a generation of artists has grown who today can already claim the title of new heroes of the contemporary Russian art scene. The main event of the anniversary was the cycle "Farewell to eternal youth." Throughout the year, 12 large solo exhibitions of representatives of the new generation in contemporary Russian art will be organized, for which the time has come for transformation - the transition from the status of "young" artists to the status held. As part of the cycle, exhibitions have already opened - “Palazzo Koshelev” by Egor Koshelev, “Urban Sauna” Urban Fauna Lab (in the Red Shop until June 25), Eugene Granilshchikova “The Last Song of the Evening” (in the White Shop until July 16). Planned exhibitions of Dmitry Venkov, Arseny Zhilyaev, Polina Kanis, Taus Makhacheva, Irina Korina, Vladimir Logutov, Misha Most and Recycle. The participants in the cycle work in different directions, and their personal statements will demonstrate the current processes in contemporary Russian art. Together with artists, viewers will look into the future of Russian art: who will become the hero of our time?
