This fall, the State Gallery on Solyanka continues to carry knowledge to the masses, and on this occasion we started a whole series of lectures on key aspects of video art.
The art critic Dasha Yuriichuk will introduce you to the work of one video artist in the context of one problem every meeting. The works of Bill Viola, Gary Hill, Bruce Naumann, Douglas Gordon and Nam June Payke will be examined through the prism of media materiality, multisensory experience, problems of sight and observation, temporality and virtuality, and will shed light on how the technical and the human are connected today.
Timetable:
September 25 at 20:00 - "Gary Hill: Multisensory." Together with the speaker, we will talk about how video art pushes the boundaries of the Western sensual model based on five senses and creates a different sense of space.
October 11 at 20:00 - "Bruce Nauman: a look." Together with the speaker, we will talk about how the artist in his works reveals the concept of the view and its connection with the authorities.
October 23 at 20:00 - "Douglas Gordon: Time." This time we’ll talk about the role of time in the perception of video and film images.
November 6 at 20:00 - "Nam June Pike: mediation." Using the example of the artist’s works, together with the speaker, we will see how the media are arranged, as well as in what ways they pay attention to those who look deep into themselves.
