Today’s Cadavre Exquis: Surrealist Fun on the World Wide Web Automatic translate
In March, the creative project Red Bull Collective Art, which carries over one of the concepts of surrealists through dozens of years, starts around the world in the format of online interaction. In the 21st century, the idea of spontaneous collective creativity - Cadavre Exquis, expands its boundaries and capabilities, opening up spaces for the expression of talent and worldview of contemporary artists.
At the beginning of the 20th century, such a strange concept appeared in France as Cadavre Exquis, arising from the phrase "Le cadavre exquis boira le vin nouveau " (literally, "An Exquisite Corpse Will Drink Young Wine"). The abstruse phrase soon became the name for an intellectual-creative game, the rules of which were, nevertheless, very simple: each participant in an arbitrary manner continued the phrase or drawing begun by the predecessor. At first, the game was fun for a narrow circle of like-minded people who often spent time together, gathering in the evenings in cafes or in apartments. But a little later, thanks to the postal service, they were joined by supporters of this initiative from different cities. Geographical boundaries expanded, letting new trends and bright ideas into the existing world of ideas, but it took a lot of time to wait for the completed masterpiece to erase the first creative fuse.
In the 21st century, technological progress and the Internet are doing the impossible, bringing together people who live in the most remote corners of the world and in different time zones according to their interests and online accessibility. Many collaborative projects that have arisen recently around the world have revived the idea of Cadavre Exquis - a new round of its development can be seen this spring as part of the Red Bull Collective Art project. First, everyone will be able to take part in the creation of collective works of art, and then everyone will be able to see their creations at exhibitions around the world.
