Biomechanics 2.0 is a unique multimedia project of Russian composers Nikolai Popov and Alexander Khubeev, in which traditional instruments interact with various media - electronics, video and light, and the performers themselves sometimes play an unusual role, playing on various objects and specially created instruments. The concert is in a sense a continuation of the previous project by Popov and Khubeev Biomechanics, also held in the Rachmaninov Hall, but, unfortunately, did not accommodate everyone then.
The concert is based on a combination of solo and ensemble plays, in which the invited soloists and two ensembles take part in various combinations: the New Music Studio and Mark Pekarsky’s legendary percussion ensemble celebrating its 40th anniversary this year (the concert is traditionally conducted by the maestro himself)
Composers Alexander Khubeev and Nikolai Popov (both graduates of the Moscow Conservatory) are today the leading Russian composers working in the field of electro-acoustic music and multimedia. Their works are performed on stages and festivals around the world, including the Venice Biennale (Italy), Diaghilev Festival (Perm), Other Space (Moscow), Moscow Forum (Moscow), Forum Neue Kammermusik (Hanover, Germany), Gaudeamus MusicWeek (Utrecht, Holland), Quandensprunge (Karlsruhe, Germany) and many others. In 2015, Alexander Khubeyev became the winner of one of the most prestigious international competitions of contemporary composers Gaudeamus.
