The program of the concert dedicated to the anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven includes chamber instrumental and vocal music: string quartet N8, op59 N2, songs, chamber vocal duets and other works. A special place in the concert will be occupied by the vocal cycle "To the Distant Beloved" ("An die ferne Geliebte").
The second movement of String Quartet No. 8, op 59 emphasizes Beethoven’s connection with Russia - this is a fragment of the so-called Russian Quartets, commissioned by Count Alexei Razumovsky and dedicated to a high-ranking client. In Allegretto-Maggiore we will meet a Russian theme (Theme russe) - a fragment of a folk song. Interestingly, Beethoven wrote all three Russian Quartets in parallel, while also creating sketches for his only opera, Fidelio. Chamber quartets occupy a prominent position in the composer’s work - this is the genre in which Beethoven became the inventor of a new instrumental language. No less important for the history of music is the vocal cycle "To the Distant Beloved" to the words of the doctor and amateur poet Aloiz Yayteles. The cycle also has an addressee: it is dedicated to the philanthropist and admirer of the composer’s music - Franz Josef von Lobkowitz. As the author of the vocal cycle "To the Distant Beloved", Beethoven became the pioneer of the most important genre of romanticism music - a cycle of songs, poetically and musically related to each other. The songs of the cycle "To the Distant Beloved" smoothly merge into one another, thus the composition stands apart from other genre samples divided into numbers and justifies the German name "Liederkreis" (circle, that is, a cycle of songs).
