On January 26, the gallery "On Shabolovka" of the Association "Exhibition Halls of Moscow" will open a personal exhibition of Evgenia Kolesnikova "Self-portraits". It will present works and projects of recent years, most of which have never been exhibited before.
Evgenia Kolesnikova (1987–2021) is a contemporary artist who explored the themes of Christianity, mythology, memory and communication. Due to her wide range of interests, her artistic heritage is multifaceted - from icon painting to works of contemporary art, book design, video art.
Evgenia Kolesnikova studied at Boris Trofimov’s design studio. As an artist, curator and designer, she worked with artists Alexander Kornoukhov, Irina Zatulovskaya, Andrey Krasulin, composer Vladimir Martynov. Participated in a number of collective exhibitions.
Our goal is not to present a retrospective look at Evgenia’s work, but to focus on topics that have been important for the artist herself over the past years. Almost all current works are somehow connected with her experience of living with the disease. A series of drawings and photographs, as well as graphic albums exploring the boundary state between life and death, the boundaries of the body and the transformation of one’s own image, became the key points of the exposition. At the same time, the exhibition presents artifacts, objects of inspiration that Evgenia has been collecting over the past few years, earlier works made in print and mixed media techniques, as well as a photo project created after a trip to China, the Doctors Portraits project.
Exhibition curators: Ilya Uvarov-Gaba, Alexei Prokofiev, Mika Sogoyan.
