ART MOSCOW - 17th International Contemporary Art Fair Automatic translate
From September 18 to September 22, the Moscow Art Center will host again the ART Moscow International Art Fair, which for the seventeenth time will bring together art dealers, gallery owners, curators, representatives of cultural institutions, collectors and connoisseurs of contemporary art.
This year will be special in the history of ART in Moscow - it will be held in a fundamentally new format. Taking into account the fair criticism of recent years regarding the quality of art and the general context of the modern art market in Russia, the organizers decided to close the old format of the fair. The most significant factor for making such a decision was the insufficient number of quality proposals - for objective reasons, the expert council of the fair was forced to reject a significant part of the projects. Given the prevalence of art, which is too clearly influenced by popular culture, the optimal solution was to change the concept of the fair.
Of course, in the 17-year history of ART in Moscow, the “backbone” of galleries has been formed, invariably offering high-level art. However, their number is not enough to maintain the main exposure in its traditional form. Therefore, instead of inviting galleries that did not meet the required standards for economic reasons, and thereby lowering the general level of the fair, the organizers chose a new development path.
Last winter, along with the preparation of a traditional exhibition, NEW PLATFORM was launched - a new project on the third floor of the Central House of Artists for new galleries. This is a more experimental, innovative, sincere art, less prone to overwhelming trends in the Russian art market. Three main conditions were formulated for this section - galleries that existed for less than three years, had not previously participated in ART Moscow and offered works in the price range of no higher than 5,000 euros were invited to participate.
It is the NEW PLATFORM project that will now become the core of ART in Moscow - it is no longer a side event. ART Moscow should remain the platform for the development of contemporary art and the art market in Russia, changing in accordance with how time changes. Provide support to young artists, curators and gallery owners, expand the zone of non-profit projects, promote the dissemination of knowledge about contemporary art in society through an educational program, increase the regional presence at the fair and strive to increase the availability of works of art for various segments of the population.
Along with NEW PLATFORM, many galleries that are long-standing and regular participants of Moscow ART will also take part in the fair. The exposition will include approximately fifteen galleries, the work of which members of the expert council have consistently chosen to participate in previous fairs.
Summing up the above, the organizers announce the new format of the fair - ART Moscow, version 2.0. The organizers stop the format, which has lost its energy in the past few years, in order to replace it with a new one, full of energy and capable of giving a new impetus to the development of contemporary art in the country.

ART Moscow 2013 will be a parallel event of the 5th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art - the largest international forum that attracts artists and connoisseurs of contemporary art from around the world. According to the curator of the event, Catherine de Seger (art director of the 8th Biennale in Sydney and curator of the Australian Pavilion 55 of the Venice Biennale), the Moscow Biennale promises to be inspiring and innovative.
A varied program will offer its visitors and ART Moscow. Within the framework of the fair, seminars, lectures, presentations and discussions with the participation of leading industry experts, exhibitions of student works, installations and performances will traditionally be held. It is planned to hold round tables on such topics as “Art fair as a cultural event”, “Collecting contemporary art - a passion without age” (with the participation of collectors 25-55 years old), “Experience in creating a corporate collection”, etc. with participation famous domestic and foreign curators, gallery owners and art collectors.
At the current fair, the installation “Endless Drill” of the Recycle art group will be presented to the attention of the audience. The metal drill, piercing the hall from floor to ceiling and continuously rotating, personifies the process of endless extraction of minerals from the bowels of the earth, which has reached its climax.
An exhibition “POSITIVE / NEGATIVE” is planned at ART Moscow 2013, dedicated to the experimental trend in contemporary Polish art, whose representatives turn the physical properties of the work into a starting point for creative searches. The exposition reflects the transition from the usual concentration of attention on the image as such (it can be called “positive”) to the comprehension of the importance of such important components of the work as the processes of drawing, design, fracture of materials, as well as the properties of the materials themselves, which in this case should be regarded as “ negative "art object.
A special event will be a special project ArtStreamShop - a performance in which artists’ works are sold in a “shop on a couch” format, and works ever offered under this project will be presented at ART Moscow. At certain hours, visitors to the fair will be able to purchase these works at special prices.
One of the parallel events of ART in Moscow will be the oldest and one of the most respected video art festivals VIDEONALE.14 on Tour. For almost thirty years, this festival has been demonstrating the latest trends and the most original ideas of world video art.
VIDEONALE.14 on Tour will bring an exclusive exhibition of 23 specially selected works. It will help stimulate dialogue between representatives of video art from different countries and create a single cultural space in which aspiring artists can develop.
As part of a joint project of the Central House of Artists and Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov will host an exhibition eCOZNANI / eCONSСIOUSNESS, which will present relevant art research projects of scientific art, exploring the intersection of science and ecology. Demonstrating various approaches to the artistic and aesthetic understanding of the problems of the interaction of living organisms and their communities with each other and with the environment (that is, understanding ecology in the sense of Ernst Haeckel), artists actualize issues of social and environmental responsibility.
The partner of ART Moscow-2013 will be the Art Media Agency (AMA), an information agency specializing exclusively in the art market and publishing over 150 materials per week devoted to news in the art world and current events. During the days of the fair, a live broadcast from the Central House of Artists will be organized.
