"Dialogue through the Ages" is the first exhibition project in Russia, which presents art objects created by the efforts of artists and engineers equally. Starting from the Renaissance, technique and technology allowed artists to expand their perception of reality and experiment with its reflection. The artistic Vanguard of the early 20th century and contemporary art used the full power of artistic thinking and a conceptual approach.
Modern artists of the new millennium turn to the interaction between art and technology, realizing that the union of imagination, creativity and knowledge is the necessary formula for finding the author’s balance between material and imagination, nature and perfect form, among those who use this formula, sculptor Aron Demetz and photographer Massimo Vitali.
Aron Demetz (Selva di Val Gardena, Italy, 1972) studied at the Munich Academy of Arts, from childhood he was fond of wood carving traditions characteristic of the Val Gardena region.
He harmoniously combined human anatomy and knowledge of the history of art with the search for new solutions to form and technology. This approach allowed him to use various materials, such as wood, stone and marble, metals (especially copper and iron), shaping them using digital technology.
Using classical and ultramodern (multi-axis machining on robotic complexes) wood carving techniques, Demetz creates sculptures commensurate with man, thereby emphasizing his relations on an equal footing with the environment, avoiding the traditional confrontation between them. In addition to wood carving, the sculptor tries many different ways of processing wood, including fire, applying various resins and rough excision of the surface. For the sculptor, not only the shape of the statue is important, but also the process of its manufacture. He meticulously explores all the possibilities and limits of wood as a material, and cultivates its natural texture. The human figures created by him can be perceived as personified trees with an almost hypnotic effect of presence. They involve the viewer in their imagery, saturating it with a paradoxical sense of unity with nature and at the same time alienation.
The charred remains of wooden sculptures connect humanity and nature, reflecting the fragility and vulnerability of both. Contemplating them, we get the opportunity to discover the secret meaning of our existence, not only metaphorically, but also literally.
Exhibitions: Macro Contemporary Museum in Rome, Museo de Arte e Historia di Guadalajara, National Academy Museum New York, Gallery Oxholm Copenaghen, HansArp Museum Rolansdeck, Garzelli ArtHouse London, Terreno Baldio Mexico City, Biennale Internazionale d’Arte di Venezia (2009 and 2011).
Massimo Vitali is widely known throughout the world for his large-format photographs depicting social rituals in modern Western civilization.
Working as a photojournalist on television and in the cinema, collaborating with many magazines and agencies in Europe, he never stopped using the camera as a tool for artistic research.
Since the 80s, he has been constantly experimenting with new technological solutions, using them in his own special way. Massimo Vitali combines the historical traditions of photography as the heiress of painting and modern technical capabilities.
Exploring the possibilities of digital and analog technologies, Vitali is constantly improving his camera in collaboration with various companies, including those using 3D printing technology, with the goal of creating an individual tool that allows you to achieve the perfect transmission of your vision.
