The Moscow Museum of Modern Art presents Alena Troitskaya’s personal project “Between the seams of time.” The exhibition was realized with the support of the Vaults Center for Art Production.
The basis of the exhibition was the site-specific project “Together”, implemented by the artist earlier in 2023 in the village of Krasino-Uberezhnoe, Tula region. The objects of study for the author were a dilapidated church of the 17th century and a house of the 19th century, where, with the help of artifacts found there, Alena Troitskaya created installations reflecting the theme of memory of place and the interaction of the physical and intangible worlds. These installations were subsequently reworked by the author and reproduced in the halls of MMOMA, and were also supplemented with silk-screen prints, videos and a book documenting the project.
The immediate spaces of the temple and the house were also important, serving as a portal for the meeting of the present and the past. The artist was occupied not only with archeology and the search for artifacts on site, but also with the modeling of performative situations in selected locations accompanying the created site-specific installations.
Alena Troitskaya captured the results of studying the site in a photo and video archive, which later became the basis for a book published by the artist. By choosing a specific point on the map, the author presents space as universal, structuring it in such a way that it itself is perceived beyond geographical, time and cultural boundaries. The past, present and future in the artist’s works turn out to be inextricably linked, intertwined and collected into a single whole.

About the partnership program of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Center for Art Production “Vaults”
One of the important missions of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art is to support and stimulate the creative initiatives of artists and curators of the new generation, create conditions for their public expression and, as a result, develop the environment of Russian contemporary art. Following this mission, MMOMA and the Vody Center for Art Production, whose tasks are in many ways similar, announced the start of a partnership program. In “Vaults” the authors are directly involved in the implementation of their projects, improving and experimenting with various technologies and copper. In turn, the MMOMA expert council selects artists who are given the opportunity to exhibit their works at one of the central exhibition venues in Moscow. Thus, the partnership program of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Vaults Center for Art Production helps young authors go from idea and concept through production to the museum site and viewer.
*ColLab is a permanent program of workshops at the Center for Art Production “Vaults”. Every year, 10 projects selected by an expert jury can be implemented at the Vaults site. All necessary materials are provided to participants as part of the grant program.
