Erarta Museum presents an exhibition of the Krasnodar artist Alexander Popykin, who transforms everyday urban scenes into visions of an alternative reality
- The element of the street, well known to the author
- Color as a way to convey dreams and ideas of the creator
- A special language of urban space, ready for screaming, moaning or intimate conversation
The exhibition by Alexander Popykin is dedicated to the elements of the street. The pictorial series was created literally along the way of the author from home to studio and back. The scene is a prosaic neighborhood of five-story buildings with a poetic name Musical. In Popykin’s paintings, reminiscent of negatives, everyday urban scenes are transformed into visions of an alternative reality.
For a long time Alexander Popykin was fond of graffiti in its original form - fonts. At one point, the writer noticed that the texture of the wall, combined with color, is expressive in itself. So the youthful interest in the subcultural artistic tradition grew into an interest in painting.
The idea that color has a certain emotional impact and is able to broadcast the dreams and ideas of the creator, allowed Popykin to take a fresh look at the everyday life of the Krasnodar microdistrict. The bare branches of trees, the variegation of plastic bags by the dumpster - everything turned into a kind of picture of another being: a kind of X-ray image of the fabric of reality or a heat trail, thanks to which the urban space acquired a language for screaming, moaning or intimate conversation.
