The Russian Academy of Arts, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Bashkir State Art Museum named after M. V. Nesterov present the exhibition “Address of Memory – Voskresenskoye”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The exhibition will consist of selected works from the collection of the Voskresenskaya Picture Gallery: more than 100 works of painting, graphics, sculpture and decorative art created in the period 1939-1986 by world-famous Russian artists, many of whom were members of the USSR Academy of Arts and the Russian Academy of Arts. Among the authors are such classics of Soviet fine art as G. M. and K. V. Korzhev, A. P. Tkachev (one of the exhibited paintings was made by him together with S. P. Tkachev), V. I. Ivanov, P. P. Ossovsky, A. A. and S. A. Tutunov, I. A. Popov, V. F. Stozharov, A. F. Sukhanov, K. F. Vlasova, V. Z. Purygin, V. N. Gavrilov, A. P. Gorsky, E. E. Grigorieva, V. A. Babitsyn, A. K. Verigo, V. A. Dreznina, R. S. Zatulovskaya, R. A. Kobozev, I. L. Manuylov, T. A. Osipova, V. G. Fedorov, I. V. Sorokin, I. D. Arkhipov, V. A. Budikhin, P. L. Bunin, V. I. Vinokur, N. G. Golts, Yu. V. Dvoretsky, I. S. Kuskov, V. I. Menshikov, B. K. Nemechek, R. I. Natapova, L. A. Shitov, A. V. Marts, A. V. Nitzberg, L. K. Chibisov, V. V. Pochitalov, M. V. Dobroserdov, A. E. Osipov, G. M. Shegal, A. P. Shorchev, S. P. Mikhailov and many others. All of them are former students and teachers of the Moscow Secondary Art School at the Moscow State Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov of the USSR Academy of Arts, who were evacuated in 1941-1943 to one of the oldest villages in the Urals - the village of Voskresenskoye in the Meleuzovsky District of Bashkiria.
The history of the creation of the Voskresenskaya Picture Gallery and the formation of its collection is unique. Appearing on the map of Bashkiria in 1745, located in a place of rare picturesqueness, at the foot of the mountains called the Blue Crowns, at the bottom of an imaginary bowl, penetrated by the fast waters of the Tor River, the village throughout its almost three-century history was a place of attraction for many talented sons of Russia, among them the miners Ivan Myasnikov and the Tverdyshev brothers, several generations of the Pashkov family, who owned the Voskresensky copper smelter; the talented surgeon Ergard Ivanovich Korleis and many others. Rich in history, unique in beauty, the village of Voskresenskoye was also deep in the rear. At the end of July 1941, when air raids on Moscow began, the first students and teachers of the Moscow Art School were evacuated to the old Russian village, the second and third groups arrived in August and September - 200 people in total. The combined efforts of the school teachers and villagers immediately normalized the educational process and the lives of young artists in evacuation. In the spring of 1943, the school returned to Moscow, but Voskresenskoye not only remained in the memory of its students - it played a decisive role in shaping their worldview, which influenced all their subsequent work. It was here that they, city kids, first felt the smell of the earth and the severity of peasant labor, discovered the complex history of Russia and the majestic beauty of its nature, and felt like artists of a great country. Here, large themes and heroic-romantic images, landscapes, portraits and narrative compositions were born, reflecting both the problems of the difficult 1950s, and the stylistics of the "severe style", and the art of the 1970s - 1980s with all the metamorphoses of social and artistic consciousness. People’s Artist of the USSR and Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, "Voskresenets" Alexey Petrovich Tkachev (1925 - 2025) recalled: "The main years of our studies coincided with the war. But it was precisely with this time that the school’s highest takeoff is associated. It was cold, hungry, but creative burning brightened up all the hardships… Yes, and the very place where we lived inspired us to do many things. The history of the village of Voskresenskoye is associated with the names of the leaders of the Peasant Uprising - Yemelyan Pugachev and Salavat Yulaev… Naturally, a student with a rich imagination was inspired by the heroic past. There, during the evacuation, many found their "gold mine", made small masterpieces… "
Grateful to the Bashkir land and village, which became their second homeland for two years during the war, Moscow artists initiated the creation of an art gallery in Voskresenskoye. The authors of the idea were Viktor Alekseevich Babitsyn (1926-2000) and Ruslan Andreevich Kobozev (1927-1995), decisive support was provided by the Chairman of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, People’s Artist of the USSR and full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, "Voskresenets" Geliy Mikhailovich Korzhev (1925-2012).
The collection is based on a gift of 126 works by Moscow artists, former students and teachers of the Moscow Moscow Art School, made in 1970. The gallery opened on November 6, 1971 as a people’s gallery, and in 1979 it became a branch of the Bashkir State Art Museum named after M. V. Nesterov. It is worth noting that the oldest art museum in the Urals was created in Ufa in 1920 on the initiative and based on a gift from an outstanding Ufa resident, full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts and Honored Artist of the RSFSR Mikhail Vasilyevich Nesterov (1862 - 1942). The status of a museum branch was enthusiastically received by the "Resurrection" artists. In 1980, the gallery moved to the former house of E. I. Korleis - an architectural monument of the second half of the 19th century. Preserved in its historical form, decorated on the facade with a solemn row of arched windows, the one-story, red brick gallery is located in the very center of the village: on the bank of the Tor River, next to the ruins of the Voskresensky copper smelter - the first metallurgical enterprise in the Southern Urals - and the Resurrection Church, which is being restored today.
Subsequent gifts from Moscow Voskresensk artists, their children and grandchildren made it possible to form a collection that has no equal in any provincial museum in the country: 439 works of painting, graphic art, sculpture and decorative art from 1939 to 2010, most of which were created during the war, including in Voskresensk.
The exhibition "Address of Memory - Voskresenskoye", dedicated to the historical anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, was organized by order of the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Faritovich Khabirov and supported by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli. The organizers and curators express special gratitude to the trustees of the Bashkir State Art Museum named after M. V. Nesterov, patrons and collectors, with whose help it was possible to implement the project - Sergei Kirillovich Pochinok (Ufa), Sergei Stanislavovich Shmergelsky (Ufa) and Vasily Nikolaevich Peganov (Moscow).
