The Anniversary Russian Antique Salon will be held from November 27 to December 1, 2024, at Gostiny Dvor (Ilyinka, 4). Over the years, the project has become an important event and has established itself as a significant and unique institution that promotes the preservation of cultural heritage, the formation and strengthening of ties between government agencies, museums, galleries and private collections. The Salon continues to be an important event in the cultural life of the country, emphasizing the importance of preserving and popularizing cultural heritage.
Vasily Bychkov, founder of the Russian Antique Salon:
"The Russian Antique Salon was conceived by us as a place for the presentation of antique galleries and for thirty years now has brought together leading antique dealers, collectors and connoisseurs of classical art, who, thanks to the Salon, had the opportunity to see and acquire for their collections countless items of decorative and applied art, graphics, painting and join the world of beauty. We are glad that many of them have walked this long path with us."
The first Salon was held in 1996 in the Central House of Artists. In 2019, the Russian Antique Salon is changing its location and is being held in the heart of Moscow — Gostiny Dvor on Ilyinka. The concept of the event has also changed, today the focus is on various aspects of collecting: antiques, jewelry art and interior design. The first Salon was attended by 18 galleries, today there are already 120. Over the years, Russian Antique Salons have been visited by more than a million people. We have organized and held 72 special non-commercial projects, introducing visitors to the imperial treasures and coronation dresses of the Russian Imperial House, with all sorts of styles and artistic movements in art — from Empire to Art Deco, entire eras, painting and decorative and applied art from different countries stored in private collections.
Today, the Salon is visited annually by more than 40,000 people. The well-considered exhibition and educational activities of the Salon organizers allow them to display works worthy of decorating the most authoritative collections.
All these years, the Salon has been providing an objective picture of the development of the antique market in Russia, showing the dynamics of its development, promoting the unification of the best participants in the antique market, and setting a coordinate system for everyone involved in old art.
THE THEME OF THE SALON 2024 IS "Heritage". The organizers see their mission as the careful preservation of cultural treasures stored in private collections and galleries. All these items refer to our tradition and form our national identity. We draw visitors’ attention to the versatility and richness of the cultural heritage of great artists, an entire country or era, emphasizing their significance in the context of global civilization. At each stand, visitors will find a QR code with a description of the exhibits that gallery owners have selected for this project.
Special exhibition "Great Russia. Historical heritage"
For the anniversary Russian Antique Salon, we have prepared a special historical and artistic exhibition, “Great Russia. Historical Heritage.” It will feature rare works of Russian bronze sculpture from the second half of the 19th — early 20th centuries, “mighty Russian bronzes that give Russia an honorable place among artistic and productive nations” (according to critic V.V. Stasov). These authentic historical artifacts, inscribed in the context of Russian history, are also part of the world cultural heritage. The sculptural compositions and paintings of the project preserve stable national images of Russia and allow us to take a different look at the preserved cultural heritage. Scientific consultant — L.A. Dementyeva.
Special exhibition "The Golden Age of Russian Furniture"
For the first time at the Salon, Suslov Fine Arts will present a large-scale exhibition that will unite unique items and artifacts created by leading Russian master furniture makers, genuine rarities of the highest historical and cultural value, which adorned palace residences. Created by order of monarchs, these items are rarely found even in museum collections. The heyday of inlaid furniture art is represented by the marquetry tray chest of drawers of Empress Catherine II, as well as original works by leading masters of "wooden mosaic" N. T. Vasiliev and M. Ya. Creations of eminent court furniture makers D. Roentgen and his student G. Gambs, works based on projects by architects L. Ruska and C. Cameron glorify the aesthetics of the majestic "Catherine classicism". Furniture designed by the great Russian architects K. I. Rossi and A. N. Voronikhin embodies the strict beauty of the Empire style, while the "Russian Jacob" style is immortalized in the works of H. Meyer. The exhibition is complemented by "small-scale furniture" - rare examples of Russian glass from the Imperial Glass Factory, ceremonial chandeliers and bronze objects created in the workshops of A. Schreiber and F. Bergenfeld.
Classical art
The exhibits of the highest level will be presented in the classical art section: paintings by great Russian masters of the 19th-20th centuries (Vasily Polenov, Alexey Savrasov, Konstantin Korovin, Konstantin Makovsky, Isaac Levitan, Ivan Aivazovsky, Robert Falk and many others), rare Western European art, ancient Russian icons and collectible porcelain, applied art and jewelry items by masters of the firms of Carl Faberge, Karl Bolin, Ivan Khlebnikov, Pavel Ovchinnikov. Rare items from gallery collections and private collections have confirmed artistic value and investment appeal.
The oldest exhibits of the Salon are works from the collection of Kirill Danelia. In addition to the "system-forming" Ancient Egypt, artifacts from cultures lying on the Silk Road will be presented - the main axis of not only trade, but also the dissemination of knowledge of its time. The key cultures and regions of the collection include Ancient China, Ancient India, Southeast Asia, Japan. The center of the exposition will be a fragment of a female sarcophagus from Akhmim.
The Kushnir gallery will show an exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the bright representative of Russian impressionism Pyotr Petrovichev. The exhibition will present works from his best period, which have not appeared in public for a long time, as well as the work of his daughters Nina and Olga, who continued the artistic tradition of their father, but have their own pictorial style.
The antique gallery "Meander Antique" will present a masterpiece of the Imperial Porcelain Factory - the Babigonsky service (more than 80 items), created by order of Emperor Alexander I for ceremonial receptions. The ensemble was designed for 100 people and consisted of 1,500 items. Collectible items of the Meissen manufactory of the 18th-19th centuries will be presented by the gallery "Valentina", Meissen 315 and private collections. Visitors to the Salon will also be able to see a unique collection of rare church icons of the 16th-18th centuries from the collection of Sergei Khodorkovsky. Cabinet bronze, crystal, watches, silver and decorative and applied art items by famous masters - suppliers of the Russian Imperial House will be shown by the Antique Salon "Na Kutuzovskom, 22", the gallery "Vremena", "Arbat, 11". Sculpture as a historical monument of the era will be presented at the stand of the Soffit gallery.
For the first time, the Salon will feature a private collection of French enamels created over a long period, from the 14th century to the first half of the 20th century, in the world’s largest center of this art, Limoges. It is based on several unique items that have been kept by one Moscow family for generations. Collector Alexey Kalinin will present unique French glass from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras.
Jewelry art
