On August 12, an exhibition dedicated to the 82nd anniversary of the Moscow Metro “22 metro metamorphism / 22metro metamorphism” opens in the gallery “On Kashirka” of the Association “Exhibition Halls of Moscow” - an artistic debut of a graduate of the British School of Design Lidia Pozhidaeva.
Much has been said and written about the dualism of the metro. Being an object of transport infrastructure, it is also a unique underground museum of stone fine art, the works of which can be endlessly admired. The concept of the project, which the author offers, is his own vision as a counterargument that conveys the personal impression of being in the subway and is reflected in a series of graphic drawings made on craft paper.
The graphics of Lidia Pozhidaeva, filled with psychedelic riddles and metaphysical depth, are worlds elongated from the metro marble, which served as a source of her inspiration. Formed in sharper lines, not inferior in effect to the natural pattern of marble in the photographs presented here, and inviting viewers to think of something different in them, it draws attention to what hundreds of thousands of people pass by daily. This is an opportunity to take a fresh look at the familiar architectural and artistic decoration of the Moscow subway, which is rapidly changing its image in the direction of greater conciseness and technocratism.
The exhibition will be supplemented by shots of full-scale photography of the Moscow metro ring stations, created in the first post-war decade and declared objects of cultural heritage, as well as new, not as monumental as before, but as interesting - bright, dynamic, modern, built recently (photographer Rudolf Kostousov).
Throughout the exhibition, the music of Pavel Pankovsky from his solo project PADRELAB will be heard.
Metamorphism - ancient Greek - transformation, transformation.
